US diplomats his and kills a British teenager flees from the scene. Ran out of the country claiming diplomatic immunity. Family has asked Trump for a waiver so she can be brought back. Trump not only said NO but defended the women with the following...

Mr Trump appeared to defend the allegation that the car was driving on the wrong side of the road at a White House press conference on Wednesday.
When asked about the diplomatic immunity row by reporters, Mr Trump called the incident a "terrible accident" but suggested driving on the opposite side of road was confusing - saying "it happens".

Trump blows it off with a "shit happens" Meanwhile a mother has lost her son from a hit and run.

Not sure how I feel about this. I don’t think diplomat or family of should be exposed to local prison time.
However I don’t like the looks of this accident either. Just don’t know as of now.
As an American I could easily imagine making a mistake and driving on the wrong side of an English road. As a person I cannot think why I’d leave an accident where a person was hit.

Well at least it is consistent with how the US views vehicle deaths. You can basically kill anybody with a car and as long as you claim it's an accident skate totally or almost punishment free.

Firstly the husband wasnt actually a diplomat and didn't have diplomatic immunity.
Secondly diplomatic immunity isnt supposed to protect you from things like that.
Thirdly the US absolutely asks for, and gets, other countries to waive immunity in these exact situations.

The diplomat's wife is a failure of a human being and the fact that they are big time "Christians" makes it even more comical.
However, diplomatic immunity is dicey subject.

I've never understood "dimplomatic immunity"...you break a law wherever you're living and you should be charged...why should certain people get a pass...

Be a diplomat in a corrupt country and your opinion would change pretty rapidly.
In the US, we are used to the concept of innocent till proven guilty in a court of law.

Rightwingers and Fox are still going apeshit because Rep Omar said "some people did something" on 9/11.

Yeah. It's so you dont get arrested in, for example, China for asking questions that the general public can't. Its not so that you can run people over and get away with it.

The issue becomes when you haven't run anyone over yet you end up in interrogation cell strapped to a chair being told to confess to running someone over.

That's pretty much how it is here. In fact, my impression is the penalties for lethal driving are harsher in the US than here, because all sentences are longer there. If you kill someone, make sure it's with a car and you are unlikely to ever serve any prison time (I think something like a third of even those convicted of death-by-dangerous-driving spent no time behind bars at all - and you probably will only be charged with death-by-careless-driving anyway, which is a much lesser charge, and might not be convicted at all if there are no witnesses).

Not certain if it was a hit and run or not. But I thought she was interviewed by the police and assured them she wouldn't leave the country?

And her husband is some sort of intelligence agent, rather than a diplomat, no?

Yeah, but I don't see why the nation involved can't waive immunity in cases where it's pretty obvious it's _not_ a stitchup like that. Apparentely the US 'never waives immunity'.

I was thinking the only chance she'd face trial here is if it turned out she or her husband were well-known Democrats. Maybe that's too cynical.

At face value, it would seem like the US should honor an extradition request by the UK once the UK convicts her.
Also face value.....diplomats wife is scumbag and it can be assumed that the diplomat is also a scumbag since scumbags band together.
Safe assumption is that their offspring will also be scumbags.
