Trying to save that down ticket ballot and precious congress seats. Also trying to save some face for 2020 hoping that some of the stench from this year still isn't clinging to them. They party of personal responsibility can't abort this and has to carry it to term. Best they can do at this point is deny it even exists and hope it all goes away 3 years.

They do have a history of staying away from and ignoring the AIDS crisis instead of trying to actually work to solve it. So many will probably just ignore this and hope Trump will eventually shut up instead of denouncing him and trying to get him to stop being an asshole.

While I despise Cruz, the one grain of respect I had for him was that he declined to endorse Trump after Trump insulted his father and wife. Then he ruined that too.

Only 6% of house seats were different than that state's choice for president in the last presidential election. And the trend has been for lower and lower differences. People are getting quite partisan. Asking for them to vote for the house but throw away the president vote (or even vote for the enemy) is quite a tall order.
