He's really the only "pristine" candidate left out of the current crop. He's sane (somewhat). Unless they have their own version of Obama that comes out of nowhere, things will be problematic again in 2020. I don't expect this to be a short divorce.

Disagree. Trump has done everything he could to alienate every voter that isn't a white male, and he was still within a couple of points (nationally) of being competitive until the past few days.
The problem for Republicans isn't felons and illegals, it's the people they nominate. Contributing to that, this round, was a complete lack of party discipline. A ridiculous number of people ran for the 2016 nomination that had NO chance of accomplishing anything except making the guy who won more than 25% the winner.
