Sounds like he was asked to step aside before those comments. I am guessing that was a last F U from Tillerson on his way out. The optics of firing him after that isn't exactly positive.

could not be worse and you have to ask yourself why not wait 48 hours instead of doing it literally an hour after Tillerson makes the comments? What was the necessity that deemed Tillerson must be
publicly fired today instead of any of the last 60 days since december when we all thought he would be fired?
Could it be that he embarrassed Moscow and Trump with his announcement hours ago that Russia was responsible for the nerve agent?
