Jesus and he didn't bother to go through Justice to determine the appropriateness of the pardon under law. Just helping out a friend. Free reign for anyone who wants to violate the constitution, so long as they do it in a way Trump approves.
Under his lack of leadership America is for sale to the highest bidder except this guy has no shame and conducts his business right out in the open. Of course he denies it the whole time while the physical evidence compounds daily.

Cheeto finally does something at least partly right.

Arpaio should have never been charged for trying to defend our borders.

This is basically a constitutional crisis in slow motion.

1)A court determined that law enforcement was violating the constitutional rights of people in the US.

2) law enforcement refused to stop.

3) the court forced law enforcement to stop by sanctioning the officials causing it.

4) the president immunized those law enforcement officials.

Based on that, how do the courts stop constitutional violations that the president supports?

Serious question.

The courts don't. The power of a President to pardon is absolute with a very few possible exceptions. The SCOTUS may not permit pardoning of himself, nor doing so to obstruct justice. Otherwise Presidents can do what they want in this regard. The Founders did not anticipate that we would elect someone so devoid of principle and regard for the institutions they created. In short no one so outstandingly evil could come to power. Obviously they were wrong.

He wasn't. He was charged with detaining people with no evidence of any crime. He was then told to stop by a federal judge and kept doing it anyway. Thus he was convicted of contemp of court. The rule of law.

What's the big deal?
We simply have here a neo nazi white supremacist criminal loving president granting a pardon to one of his own.
A bad president in bed with a bad cop. Bad president, bad cop. One in the same.
Not that any of what Donald Trump does will help Joe any....

However, this does give us the answer to "what is in those Trump tax returns" that Trump refuses to release.
Criminal activity indeed.
Criminals of a feather flock together, so naturally with exposing himself as a neo nazi lover and now as a criminal lover as well, we have all we need to know about Donald Trump and those hidden tax returns.

Interesting thing to me going beyond all of this is what the republican leadership in the house and senate are now saying about a Trump government shutdown.
Pay close attention to this one...
Republicans in congress want to pass a "temporary" funding bill to avoid a government shutdown i.e. Trump show-down.
With "temporary" defined as about three weeks.
Reading between the lines, republicans give Donald Trump another three weeks before one of two things happen.
Either the Russia investigation is on the brink of exploding forcing a Trump impeachment or Trump resignation, or neo nazi Trump will become pointless and totally incapable of leadership. The non president.
With delaying the funding showdown or as it is better known delaying THE TRUMP WALL by three weeks, this will give republicans time to not only keep the government running but also to figure out how and by whom they will replace Donald Trump with.
And when Trump is proven to be up to his orange balls in Soviet corruption, Mike Pence will never be allowed to replace an impeached Donald Trump. Nor will his Supreme Court appointee be allowed to stand.
Three weeks. That's some 504 hours until Donald Trump runs out of time and will be kicked out of the presidency, one way or another.

This disaster of a president can pardon Charles Manson if he so wishes. Who cares?
At this point, what Trump does no longer matters.
And that Trump pardon certainly will not matter to Joe Arpaio.
Joe will dread the very day he ever knew of a Donald Trump.

PS...
This so reminds me of that movie "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN".
That powerful line in that film applies.
"You know how this is going to turn out, don't you".

Again he has that power, it just undermines the rule of law.

Guess the only silver lining is that Arpaio didn't win re-election this last term. The new Sheriff in town seems to be a good person, at least that is the initial impression we have of him here in Phx, AZ. Pretty much everybody out here knew Trump was going to do it regardless of the WH said, they just didn't want the groups to organize and then the local news ran some story that Trump was going to possibly talk about some info for the Dreamers and a possible permanent solution that Trump was working on in DC in exchange for some $$ for the border wall. I have no idea if this info was the news making things up to really make sure Latinos didn't come out in real force or there is something of substance there, not sure but doubt it. The Dreamers info just didn't sound correct coming from Trump, so I figured it would be BS and he would pardon Arpaio that night. Phx held its breath that night and thankfully nothing really happened. Sad times....

Arpaio attempted to usurp the authority of the federal govt wrt immigration enforcement & did so in true fascist fashion. When placed under federal court order to cease & desist, he continued, then tried to place the blame on his staff.

Yllus posted this excellent link in the other thread-

If law enforcement fails to obey the courts they become a law unto themselves & that's totally unacceptable under our form of govt. Period.

Not sure if it was the same Fed Judge or not, but Arpaio had one and his wife followed around for a while too, unbelieveable what he got away with.

This from President Donald Trump’s former ethics chief, Walter Shaub.

"Vile!! What POTUS says "exemplifies selfless public service" is: dehumanizing inmates, racial profiling, and gleefully defying a court order"
"Every one of you WH staffers owns this disgusting unamerican racist pro-authoritarian gesture forever like it was tattooed on your forehead."
"This pardon also departs from procedural norms. And as an affirmative act by POTUS, it reveals an emboldening. A harbinger of worse to come."

.

Obama granted executive clemency to a record 1,929 criminal turds, including drug dealers, terrorists, and murderers. More than Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, Reagan, and Carter combined.

Trump pardons one: a 85 year old sheriff and libtards throw hissy fits proving what low-lifes they are.

Glorious.

Clemency and pardons are two different things. Lol.

Do you think pardoning arpaio was a good thing? If so, why?

Again he has that power, it just undermines the rule of law.

Funny how Gov. Jerry Brown can release 1,400 inmates with life sentences (80% of whom were in prison for murder) back into Californian communities, and hardly a peep from any one about it. Some articles in fact praised him for being merciful.

Trump pardons an 85 year old former sheriff, who frankly doesn't have long to live nor poses any threat to the community, and the media goes nuts.

Releasing arpaio is more harmful by far. One is just based on practicalities. The other is a direct undermining of the legal system.

Trump is a degenerate piece of shit, how could this have come as a surprise to anyone? You're dealing with a man who appears quite likely to be a sociopath. There will be much worse than this to come I expect. Once the charges are brought against his campaign staff who colluded with Russia, expect a battery of pardons for all of them. That is when the shit will really hit the fan.

Really doesn't make any sense to bust out the presidential pardon. It was contempt of court, max jail was six months and with Arpaio's age there'd be no way he'd be behind bars. And with the self-inflicted Russia investigation looming over Trump's presidency, it just makes it look like a warm-up for pardoning himself or one of his lackeys.
