Most academically accomplished people on this forum hate Trump which is not in agreement with his first place standing in the national polls. What exactly has Trump done or not done to deserve this level of hatred?

What trump controlls is a segment of the population that loves to hate. Hate Mexicans, Muslims, Blacks, Asians, Liberals, anything. They are the pure of the pure of 'Merica.

Do we really think the pure of the pure of 'Merica will number enough in November?

Time will tell but history has often shown a plan of what to do and compassion towards others gets independents to win elections over the puritan vision.

I saw this list posted and was wondering why so many supposedly smart people hate Trump?
I think that must be the funniest thing I've read in the past few days. Seriously.

PS: I don't "hate" Trump. I loathe and despise him (and always have, for that matter.) Look the words up in a dictionary if you have to.:whiste:

I don't know... His message of hatred and devisivness really resonates with me.

He's a misogynistic, racist, bigoted, out-of-touch elitist and has somehow managed to convince a portion of American Population that's he actually a successful businessman despite the fact he's inherited the overwhelming majority of his wealth.

He's run for presidency isn't anything but a carefully devised marketing poly. In the mind of Trump all press is good press.

Which portion would that be and what does it say about them??

I loathe trumplestiltskin because he feeds off of fear and misinformation, he's racist, xenophobic and a misogynist. Him being a loud mouthed blowhard is just the diarrhea on top of a shit pie.

I personally like Trump, because he makes me laugh every time he starts ranting about some contentious shit he conjured up in that twisted mind of his.

But I could never, ever vote for the guy to be our POTUS.

It takes a mind that's a whole lot more screwed up than his to actually vote for the guy.

Hatred? Strong word. Most chain emails/facebook soapboxing uses strong words. I don't know many people that "hate" Trump. I like him as an entertainer. No way do I want him as president.

Trump is a social dominator.

His followers are right-wing authoritarians.

If you consider yourself a follower, congratulations on that I guess.

Luckily, most of the rest of us aren't.

Trump is (ironically) like Sanders, but for dumb and uneducated people.

Like Sanders, he is anti-establishment, but Trump is talking to THOSE folks who don't think, folks you talk to with emotions such as fear, "patriotism" etc.

This is why "smart intellectuals" dislike Trump, because Trump's strategy to manipulate using emotions doesn't work on them. Smart folks think, they're not limited by (and live by) their emotions, usually.

Just one example, not that it shouldn't surprise, yesterday Trump said on fb "I will make our Military so big, powerful and strong that no one will mess with us".

Stuff like this resonates with "proud Americans", but fails if you say this to someone who *already knows* that the US military is actually already the biggest, as big as the next eight nations COMBINED (including China).

(Just to ride on this because it's just...too absurd...WHO is gonna mess with the US? Terrorists? Communists? Let's say he would up the military budget even more and indeed "make the US military bigger and more powerful" than it already is, how would that prevent the US from conflict...or..the classic vision of, say, a nuclear war? Would "a bigger and more powerful military" prevent nuclear missiles from entering the US?)

Etc....pretty much anything he spouts you can dissect and all that's left is non-working emotional-driven nonsense, most he says is at the level of a 5th grader.

Also..notice how recently he keeps pushing his slogan "....make America SAFE and great again". You know, it's important to get it into people's heads that America allegedly "is not safe".

(This is in particular funny since extremism, with only a handful exceptions, is indeed no topic in the US which affects normal folks. So why exactly needs America be made "safe again"? From what threat? The 10,000 potential refugees who sure as hell won't ever set foot on US soil anyway? Immigrants? Terrorists? ISIS? "Rapists coming in from Mexico?" Why is America supposedly not safe?)

Clever and subtle (or not so subtle, depending) fear-mongering at its best. And this is why many people dislike Trump. Because they see through his (cheap) manipulations.

Sure, maybe Trump did not do any of the stuff on that list.
But lets at least give him a chance to.

As a bottom feeder scum sucking flaming lefty liberal, yeah sure I'd like to see Donald win.
If for no other reason, but to watch thousands of establishment republicans suffer nervous breakdowns.
And we can start off with Jeb.
When you have to ask you mom to justify your candidacy and reason for living, that is about as bad as it gets.
What's mom going to say?
"Jeb was a naught boy who never cleaned his room or took out the trash.
But we still love him."

The saddest part is he would go away if everyone would stop focusing in on him all the time. The democrats are just as responsible as his followers.

Hero of the ignorant. Explains his popularity in the GOP base

So explain mark cuban, or Carl icahn, or any number of obviously smart people that have done well in life that like him.

Your elitism is telling. You cannot explain his appeal, therefore you denigrate.

In effect, you are the same thing as those you denigrate. You claim he is afraid of immigrants so he trashes them, same with muslims. Neither are true, but you don't let reality stop you.

So the same holds true of your belief of trump. You are afraid of him so your only recourse is to call him, and those who support him, names, in order to fix your cognitive dissonance. Nice try.

I can't figure out why no Politician hasn't figured out Trumps weak spot is his narcissistic ego. Trump had a roast on comedy central(?) years ago and got pissed off at the comedians making fun of him. That's real strange, I'd understand if he said no I don't want to be roasted but why go to one?
Ask him about a failed casino or why he isn't a loser for declaring bankruptcy or even why any dummy could have started with what he had, put the money in a broad market fund and be in the same position he is now.

They have tried. The bankruptcy thing is easy to counter. Shit happens, we renegotiated, we both came to an agrement, and the world kept spinning.

Every major investor has made a bad investment. Most have made many. Big fucking deal. The key difference is that you are right more than you are wrong on a relative value, risk adjusted, basis.

Interesting take on the situation. Ignorant buffoon runs for president based on platform of magical thinking and poorly thought out, ineptly created plans. Declare anyone who points this out to be the problem for calling said buffoon names.

Lol.

First off, I don't believe he is an ignorant buffoon.

Second, I don't see how it is any different than the other candidates running. None of them have realistic plans.

Be honest, aren't you at least a little disappointed that this is the best we can do as a country? You're a smart guy, even if we disagree on a lot, we probably agree that every candidate is a fucking joke on some level and that there has to be somebody better out there.

I think Bernie's plan is realistic.. just look at Eisenhower.

Of course we don't appreciate it as much as we do his being a general but his plan is responsible for our driving habits.. he built the national highways.

If Bernie is elected.. we'll all love what he does but when it comes time to sing his praises.. I fear we'll go back to our old habits.
