Trump hints at another stimulus check that will be much more generous than the last.

Trump isn't a dummy. He knows that if he wants to be reelected he's going to have to dole out checks. I expect to see another right before the election.

BTW, I said hints because he doesn't come out right and say that Americans will be getting another check. It's implied though.

I certainly hope so. The last one was woefully inadequate considering the magnitude of the "shutdowns" and job furloughs/losses. We already needed a second round. If the Orange One decides to do so because he believes that it will help his reelection chances, so be it. At this point, a correct decision for the wrong reasons is better than none at all.

Republicans are already maneuvering behind the scenes to block it. Which, electorally, is maybe the worst idea I've heard this year. They want to jam people on the extra UI benefit also which ends after July. Couple that with not wanting to pass a state/local rescue package and you're looking at welcoming economic armageddon in the fall as the party in power.

But think how angry the Libs will be! It will be glorious riding that wave of joy at the anger of the libs to epic electoral defeat.

Yet he poohpoohed the plan to award $2K/mo backdated to the beginning.

That said, it needs to be more targeted to those directly affected. I haven't worked in several years for reason that have nothing to do with the bug. I was not put out of work by the bug. I was not told to stay home.

I got the check and I used it. But I don't feel I should have gotten one. ONLY those who were put out by these orders should have. ONLY small businesses that were ordered to close should have gotten any form of compensation.

The problem is that determining that is hard and setting up rules for how it must be used keeps businesses that need it from getting it.

Sure, some of it will go to those who don’t need it but from a practical governance perspective we should just give it to everyone and call it a day.

If practicality didn’t matter what would the qualifications even be for “those that need it”?

I have no idea. We should just be running the printing press like mad right now. Yes, Republicans are hypocrites, but that shouldn’t stop us from doing what’s right.

Interesting how McConnell and Friends think providing welfare to the very wealthy and big business is the preferred way to stimulate the economy vs putting money in the general population's pockets so they can stimulate the economy by spending that money for groceries, medical requirements, paying the rent/mortgage, paying off college loans, transportation needs, you know, really non-essential stuff like that. /s

Well, the first package was desperately needed and quickly. So it made sense to send it out to everyone (essentially, some didnt get it) without waiting to determine some eligibility criteria. A second stimulus could be more targeted to those who had lost their job (or much reduced hours), or small business owners that were closed down.

I was in the same situation as Lost. I had just retired, so the shutdown had no effect on my income at all, except that it squashed my plans to find a part time job.

So rather than encourage the easiest-possible things we all can do and lead by example (by wearing a mask, and by social distancing) he'll continue to make fun of these things and then the gov will continue to cut big checks (I guess?) When we and Brazil are the last dumbasses on the planet to be struggling with the worst of the epidemic. Have to wonder what kind of leg up we are handing those other countries, and how much our tourism industry will be hurting when healthy countries rightly shun us.

That's efficient government for you, drain that swamp!

Biden, if he wins, is going to inherit a shambles.

I honestly hope they already have a team working on who to hire and drafting EOs to be signed quickly. Because you know the Trump team if they lose will fuck up the transition however they can out of spite.

^^ This is why I think one who is not re-elected should leave office immediately. Two-three months is an eternity when one is enraged and insane.
Wait! did http just say that Trump is enraged and insane? ... I feel woozy
