Utah must suffer for the good of America. I actually think Utah is the most functional and rational red state, but it is also the source of a lot of terrible ideas and terrible politicians.

Don't get me wrong...I do not line up with Utah's politics, but the land is amazing and we should stand up for it regardless.

I love hiking in national parks and national monuments more than just about anything. I just came back from a week of hiking in them. I also loathe Trump. But, he does have a point here. Our national ____ (fill in the blank) can only increase in numbers, with no tested mechanism to ever reduce the numbers. Yet the funding does not increase. Something has to give.

I'd like a proper and thorough review and a proper analysis of how to fully fund these areas. If someone's pet park / monument / lakeshore / memorial / parkway / preserve / reserve / recreation area / river / wild and senic river and riverway / scenic trail / seashore / national mall / military park / battlefield park battlefield site / battlefield / historical park / historic site / international historic site is not that important and is quite costly to properly maintain, then maybe we shouldn't pretend that we are preserving it.

But, I don't trust Trump or his minions to actually perform an honest, thorough, and proper review.

So whats Trumps point?

His point is always about big buisness and in this case big mining. Uranium Mine Expansion in Proposed Bears ...

You said it yourself "I don't trust Trump or his minions to actually perform an honest, thorough, and proper review." Its just a sham for removing Bears Ear as national monument to open the lands for his cronies to mine.

What the hell do we need uranium for anyway. We have how many thousands of multi-megaton-MIRV-ICBMs and somehow we have to dig more of this crap out of the ground. Because jerbs.

Can't some billionaire just start paying these degenerate planet-haters to stop digging and drilling and burning the dirt for a handsome 5k/mo paycheck?

I am serious. Why don't we just pay the deplorables to stop polluting and destroying the environment? All they want is money anyway, maybe the rich liberals in hollywood could each sponsor a deplorable to not be such a degenerate POS for a year for a certain amount of $? Maybe have somebody check in on them every once in awhile. They could of course continue to drink and smoke and watch NASCAR, they just wouldn't be allowed to work at the oil rig or drive the dump trucks anymore... because they'd be payed not to.

While I agree with you on the need to increase funding if you are increasing parks and monuments. You can prevent a lot of damage with no funding, just by preventing federal leases on the land. There has been some national parks demoted to national recreational sites. We should also look into allowing states to develop state parks within some of these federal reserves.

There is no provision in law requiring outreach or coordination prior to Presidential proclamation of monuments under the Antiquities Act. The Trump admin is blowing smoke and wasting people's time and the taxpayers' money.

It is even more transparent that the only GW Bush monument they are looking at is the one Obama expanded. It is unbelievable how spiteful and petty this administration is.

It's amazing they are even humoring this buffoon and allowing him to "review" monuments. The president is not allowed to review anything about monuments designated by prior presidents. This could be the first time Trump is outright declaring himself new powers with absolutely zero legal grounds for their existence. AFAIK previously all his ridiculous moves were technically legal on the grounds that other presidents had done them before.

Very sad.

If those national monuments are taken away, this 3,000+ year old tree will be one of the first to be cut down.

This is the type of things the NM protect, and what trump wants to destroy.

Nice pic of a giant 260' tree! Imaged searched that tree, its called the Boole sequoia located in the Giant Sequoia Monument. It's the 6th largest Giant Sequoia which are the largest trees in the world. There should be no more cutting of virgin old growth forest.

He's the sort who will gladly fixate on perceived wrongs and implement bad ideas

I'm taking this out of its original context, but I think it's fair to point out that many/most politicians will happily do this bit for the sake of political popularity / more votes.

The problem here is only the fringe right is against national monuments and parks.

That's true, but few politicians are so neurotic that they'd eliminate national monuments. Even most Republican supporters aren't likely to care (and may even object), so this is more about petty revenge than scoring points.

The hypocrisy on these boards is so hilarious.

ITT, you have idiots complaining that Trump wants to give a national monument and everyone HATES the idea because... well because it's Trump.

And then there is this thread, on the same forum page:
http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=thread...atue-and-chant-nazi-phrases-at-night.2506254/

Where the exact same idiots are complaining that people want to keep a monument intact instead of tearing it down and pretending the confederate stats never existed.

Your incredible hypocrisy and BIAS is so obvious.

Obama didn't set up monuments to slavery and white supremacy.

Argument over.

Think you are reaching there.

Millions of people don't travel to see, camp, fish, climb, hike those statues. They can be moved and people can still go see them.

I don't know if you're right (re first sentence): my point is that if they thought that it could be a vote winner, IMO many politicians would do just about anything for it. In the UK, I can't remember the Conservative party ever pushing a racist or dog-whistle to racists-style politics until their 2010-2017 run in government, but in their current period in power they've been acting like UKIP-lite pretty much the whole time (to anyone who doesn't know, UKIP are basically a slightly more polite version of typical far-right parties; their most recent leadership campaign candidates were all campaigning based on what they could do against foreigners), because they saw a chance to grab about 10 million more votes.

IMO it sounds more like a chance to make some money to me (ie. selling off the land for development and/or removing environmental protections for that land), though I agree that Trump's pettiness could easily be a notable factor in the decision here, and the Repubs' desire to stick it to the Democrats any way they can too.

That's its legs you uncultured buffoon. Also, there is a Sleestak face Creature from the Black Lagoon in the shrubbery to the right of the tree.
