http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/10/politics/donald-trump-james-comey-russia/index.html

There are two reasons why President Donald Trump fired James Comey, according to a source close to the now-former FBI director:
  1. Comey never provided the President with any assurance of personal loyalty.
  2. The fact that the FBI's investigation into possible Trump team collusion with Russia in the 2016 election was accelerating.

FUCK YOU DONALD TRUMP. can we impeach the shit out of this guy already?

Holy crap, I can't believe I'm living through these times. Senate democrats are pondering a procedural option to shut down the Senate until the repubs agree to an independent investigation.

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/5/10/15610894/democrats-comey-senate-shutdown

They haven't decided to do it yet, but it's under consideration. If they do, so much for that healthcare bill. Among other things.

I say do it. Do it now.
Interesting, I have only a layman's understanding of Senate rules and procedure, but I'm guessing there isn't much precedent for this occurring. I don't think Senate Dems would do this unless as a last resort against dire circumstances...I don't remember any talk of this option when Mitchie decided Merrick Garland would never get a hearing.

It's worrying one of our forum staff is this...uninformed. Partisanship per se isn't the problem, but to sound like a slightly less unhinged version of nutters like Chiropteran is, well, unsettling. I suppose as long as it doesn't affect moderation it's fine...
Although I never got "Admin Emeritis" under my avitar (probably pissed someone off ), the great majority of the staff does not use their authority to act against members or bully them fully aware of their immunity. I'll vouch for Fern without reservation in his moderation impartiality, which is distinct from posting as a member.

Yes, however silly his posts are I've never seen anything from Fern that would make me think he was moderating in anything other than an impartial way.

Normally I'd never consider such an action, but at this point I agree. Do it now.

To my understanding they could, there is some kind of minimal attendance required. I believe it has to do with the old days where a big snow storm could keep a large amount out and they didn't want a small number passing a bunch of crap. I'd guess every democrat would not show up and go into hiding until essentially an arrest warrant goes out to round them all up and bring them to the house and/or Senate.

No it's not that. They aren't denying a quorum, they are withholding unanimous consent. Basically the senate requires unanimous consent to wipe its ass so withholding it would grind business to a halt.

Well to be fair, Underoos did balance his typical long-hair YT bullshit with a no-hair this time.

even the right leaning WSJ is writing some damning articles...

"Mr. Comey started receiving daily instead of weekly updates on the investigation, beginning at least three weeks ago, according to people with knowledge of the matter and the progress of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe. Mr. Comey was concerned by information showing possible evidence of collusion, according to these people."

I don't think it's ever been done. As I understand it, certain routine decisions, like scheduling committee hearings, by Senate rules must be made with unanimous consent. If consent is withheld, it would essentially shut down the Senate. One problem I have with this is that like the filibuster, these Senate rules are in place because at some point, a majority in the Senate voted them in. Meaning, presumably, that a majority could vote them out.

This is just getting weirder and weirder. I really hope we can get our country back on track soon (and Trump and his entire retinue from creepy-ass glassy-eyed Pence all the way down in jail or graves).

Didn't something like this happen in Wisconsin? I vaguely remember Democrats shutting down the state legislature and running across state lines and getting subpoenaed/arrested when Scott Walker wanted to force a vote on eliminating public unions. They were dragged back in kicking and screaming... Not sure if the US Senate would be similar?
