Trump was in a a really tough spot with this one. On the one hand, I don't disagree that Comey hardly inspired confidence with how poorly he handled several situations. On the other hand, it really looks bad for Trump to get rid of him at this point due to the ongoing investigations regarding Trump's campaign and ties to Russia.

I think he smelled his termination long ago as well as knowing the cause would possibly be Trumped up. Comey might be a tool but I have no doubt he can easily spot a volatile criminal thug when he sees one.

If Trump is true to form, he's going to attempt to replace Comey with a Devin Nunez clone whose primary mission is to sabotage the FBI investigation into Trump's Russian connections.

I have no idea why you would even think that. Trump will select a loyalist and that will be the end of it. When the Director says "No" that's it. The FBI investigation will almost certainly not be ended because of appearences but it will have it's balls cut off. Trump now owns the loyalty of the investigative agencies. It's over, Trump just won.

If the dems retake the House next year, then I assume they will investigate the matter vigorously, issuing subpoenas if necessary. Possibly appointing an independent commission. This makes next year's mid terms even more important.

I posted before reading the thread, saw you post that after I had and it was good for a laugh. I should dig up my predictions on the US spiraling into a dictatorship if Trump was elected. I guess Trump was getting tired of hearing everyone in law enforcement and intelligence, US agencies as well as foreign, reminding him that Putin interfered in the election with fake news and hacking his opponents to help him win.

I expect in about 3 years and 8.5 months we will find out if the US is officially a failed state or if it can recover from what is currently a failed democracy. One in which a significant minority of the country appears fully ready to leave democracy for dictatorship so long as they believe they are on the winning team. What a shitshow America has become in just a quarter of a year.

You can believe the broader intelligence community, and public info (we're talking RT television broadcasts, for goodness' sake) that shows the Russians clearly favored Trump, or you can believe... who? Do you have any evidence that there wasn't a hack or that the Russians weren't trying to influence the election?

Can you imagine what conservatives would have done if Clinton fired the head of the FBI while he was investigating her email server or the Clinton Foundation?
