Neither Trump nor either of the letters cited by Trump gave that as the reason Comey was fired. Instead, they gave the reason of the Clinton email server investigation, something that wrapped up months before Trump came into office. After all of that had happened, Trump asked Comey to stay on for the remainder of his term. Now suddenly he is supposedly firing him for the same thing he clearly had no problem with a few months ago. It is incredibly obvious that Trump is lying here. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out, it doesn't even take a person of average intelligence to figure this out. All it takes is for you to put logic ahead of partisanship.

The president is lying to you about why he fired the official tasked with determining whether he or other members of his administration worked in the service of a hostile foreign power. If this is not a problem for you or it's something you're trying to hand wave away that is incredibly disturbing. What we need now is a special prosecutor or independent investigation because the normal channels of law enforcement are being corrupted.

Besides the IG was already investigating what Comey has done. If that result comes back bad you have a legitimate reason. Trump fired him and then looked for an excuse after the fact trying to justify it.

Actually that's used quite frequently in wrongful termination lawsuits. Trump praised his performance a few months ago and then claimed that same performance was a reason for termination now. That indicates he is lying.
