Trump just ordered the gassing and shooting of peaceful protestors in Washington DC just so he could have an effing photo op in front of church

Huh? I don't ever remember saying that I support those camo wearing gun toting state protestor morons. Is anyone in this forum backing them? Where did that come from?
You were critical of thee protets being linked to civil rights. I was showing by comparison their legitimacy is high compared to the gun toting rednecks.

I also make a clear distinction between the protestors vs rioters/looters

Speaking of stupid arguments, I like how people keep comparing the Washington DC protestors to great civil rights leaders Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. It's almost like you completely forgot that the night before they were looting stores, vandalizing national monuments, and setting fire to a church next door to the White House.

Sure, not everyone in that group took part in that, but pretending that they weren't a security risk is naive at best.

Do you really believe that the civil rights movement of the 1960's was peaceful? Are you that out of touch with history?
Really, go read about the Long, Hot Summer of '67. MLK himself might have been peaceful, but at almost every one of his marches there was some rioting and looting that occurred.
When you get hundreds or thousands of angry people together to protest, some will always get violent. The solution is not more violence. Violence only ever begets violence. The solution is to not let it get to the point that they are so angry in the first place. If we want a peaceful society we must listen to those that say they are being oppressed and work with them to resolve their issues.

So this is depressing. If any of you harbored delusions that evangelicals would see right through Trump’s bible prop charade...well, prepare to be disappointed:

'He wears the armor of God': evangelicals hail Trump's church photo op

Many of Trump’s evangelical supporters, far from Washingtons political stage, saw the move as a victory in a world rife with evil.

“My whole family was flabbergasted,” said Benjamin Horbowy, 37.

The Horbowys had gathered in Tallahassee, Florida, to watch live as Trump walked from the White House to St John’s. “My mother just shouted out, ‘God give him strength! He’s doing a Jericho walk!’”

A Jericho walk, in some evangelical circles, refers to the biblical book of Joshua, where God commanded the Israelites to walk seven times around the opposing city of Jericho, whose walls then came crashing down.

Horbowy already supported Trump politically – he heads the local chapter of a pro- Trump motorcycle club and is campaigning for a seat in Florida’s state senate – but when Trump lifted the Bible, Horbowy and his family felt overcome spiritually.

“My mother started crying. She comes from Pentecostal background, and she started speaking in tongues. I haven’t heard her speak in tongues in years,” he said. “I thought, look at my president! He’s establishing the Lord’s kingdom in the world.”

Did he feel that conflicted with the Gospel of John, where Jesus said “my kingdom is not of this world”?

“Well,” Horbowy said, “that’s a philosophical question.”

The catalysts for the protests was the killing of 46-year-old George Floyd by Minneapolis police. Asked about that, Horbowy said, “There’s a Bible verse that says we shouldn’t talk about evil things. We can just say, ‘There’s evil’ and move on.”

He couldn’t remember the exact verse, he said.
...

When Trump describes himself as a “law and order” president and holds aloft a Bible, he conflates which law he will enforce, and whose order will follow. In a short speech before the walk to St John’s, Trump said he would “dominate the streets”. That is the “kingdom in the world” Horbowy referenced.

“I believe it’s like Ephesians 6:10 through 19,” Horbowy said from Florida. “I believe this is a president who wears the full armor of God.”

But one of those verses – verse 12 – says explicitly that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood”, but against spiritual enemies.

“Well,” Howbowy said. “He’s fearless.”

Look at women in the chart vs. male (insert race). This goes for criminal sentencing, traffic stops, etc. Now tell me why it doesn't even register with woke liberals. Why is the even smaller gap (relative to the gender proportion) so "oppressive" and "racist" when you don't consider the gender gap either (with sexism replacing racism)?

Here it shows that Floyd's age group is the same as a 20-something white male. I've already explained why. It's mostly a miscreant problem.

wait...so are you trying to make an argument of discirimnation between men and women when it comes to crime, police response, and benegn traffic stops based on unfair gender bias, rather than the plain fact that women don't have massive amounts of testosterone pumping through their veins all the time? You know--hey, perhaps women don't aggressively respond to police as often as men do, because women simply aren't as aggressive? Nah, too difficult.

wtf...

Well, duh. That's the same with race. You realize black men are responsible for around half the homicides despite making up only about 6% of the population? From the 2.5:1 black male vs. white male death by cop ratio, adjust violent crime difference and low SES. That leaves little for racism to account for the numbers.

horseshit. blacks are sentenced at a far higher rate than whites, for all crimes, despite being charged at the same rate, across all crimes, as whites.

charged /= sentenced. Neither does "responsible" really, when you accept the plain fact that justice in this country is determined by access to wealth. plain and simple.

I would think you know that and are just being purposefully disengenuous, or maybe you just don't care about how statistics work.

Exactly, the thing they don't like is black people protesting - they just know that it's not okay to say that so they invent objections as to the manner of protest, holding out that there is of course some kind of protest that they would totally get behind if only the black people would just do that.

What really gave the game away is that they were incandescent with rage that people were kneeling while a song was played. I literally cannot think of a less controversial, more peaceful method of protest than that and yet they STILL freaked out. I wish they would just be honest and say they don't like black protests so black people should stop.

and they still hate it when white people protest...for anything. Especially for minorities--it's like, this isn't your job--let them protest! (Even though they "aren't allowed to.")

It's hard to separate the plain recognition among white conservatives that they specifically expect all whties to accept and flaunt their obvious privilege in this country: why would you protest anything--you're white! what are you, some weak pussy? Why would you tolerate them blackies protesting? That's their business, and they're just spending their time complaining about generation disenfranchisement that specifically blocks them out of egalitarian society...rather than checking me out at Wal-Mart like they are supposed to be happy doing! Oh, and how dare they protest having that job be their primary option--they should be happy that this is what we allow them!

It's in every single post from every single conservative that posts here, and that I speak to in life. bleeding, slobbering privilege. They can't help themselves.

I wonder how any of them would react if they were being physically choked out--would they struggle to defend their lives, or just sit there passively and wait to die, like they specifically demand of black people?

well, apparently Pat Robertson comdemned Trump, but I didn't see his words, so I'm guesing it's a rather gutless condemnation, targetted in the wrong way, that would keep the bible clutchers happy.

I dunno in what thread to post this (I can't believe we don't have a single thread for protests/riots).
This was the MKE PD's reasoning for getting physical and aggressive last night.

I'm not sure they know how this stuff works...

The replies are hillarious

The media and the celebrities are telling everyone else to maintain social distancing but I don't see them saying anything about the so-called protesters. I guess social distancing is only important if some people do it but not others.

Oh ok buddy. I guess social distancing is out the door because of these lovely "peaceful" protesters. Keep the double standards going.

Let's open up the rest of the country if you guys are perfectly happy with mass social gatherings. But I guess that won't happen huh ... social distancing, contact tracing, and staying indoors only applies to the rest of the people. What a joke.

I find it interesting that people who claimed that coronavirus was a hoax, that social distancing was useless, that the economy was more important than anything (to the point of armed invasion of the Michigan legislature), are suddenly concerned that protesters aren't social distancing.

It's almost like they're not sincere in some (or all) of their espoused beliefs.

It works on both sides. The so-called experts, media elites, celebrities, politicians were very adamant about social distancing before but haven't heard a thing about them concerning these protesters. I see a double standard. We're talking about the ones pushing the social distancing narrative ... why are you bringing in the right wingers who have their own petty little agenda.

Feel free to inform the protesters about your views that they should socially distance and all wear masks. I did in fact hear commentators on both MSNBC and CNN mention protesters not wearing masks and going back to their communities spreading the virus, but I suspect you don't frequent those channels.

It's fairly apparent you don't want a conversation, you want your starbucks coffee or whatever and to turn a blind eye to police murdering innocent black people.

Were the police sent to enforce social distancing laws like they were to businesses?
