Hard to know the counterfactual but Trump's popularity hit its nadir when he was enacting those base policies. Much more than the clowning it was the policies he enacted that people hated the most.I don’t think they believe it’s the policies. Or that Trump is wrong, they just think he’s a bit too uncouth.
If not for the endless Trump self inflicted wounds the base policies would have probably been good enough to win a general. Hence we get the push for Ron DeSantis.
Then you are not talking about the base.Hard to know the counterfactual but Trump's popularity hit its nadir when he was enacting those base policies. Much more than the clowning it was the policies he enacted that people hated the most.
Yeah but he said to win a general election. Then you are not talking about the base.
We may believe them more if they gave a shit about their own dead zygote “children”.We may believe them more if the same people cared about them once they are born.
Independents are the other side?Yeah, I think that’s undeniable. Look at his margins with independents. Again this is very recent history!

Trump’s tax cuts and attempts to repeal the ACA were super unpopular. For real, go look at 538’s approval tracker - the only time he was less popular was when he tried to overthrow the government, which I guess is also a base pleasing policy, haha.Which policies did so poorly with Republicans and the sliver of independents they need? Real question as I didn’t read the governance as putting off those people.
Yet the most extreme and dangerous right-wingers, which is probably 40%+ of the republicans, are still fawning over him like he is the second coming.Well Trump popularity is dropping like a rock; though what still scares the heck out of me is the GOP want trumpism without trump (i.e, they buy into trump created policies of bigotry they just want someone less toxic to push them. But given how toxic the policies are doesn't it take a toxic waste to push them ?
