Reading up on this a bit more I was reminded of a case that I can't believe I already forgot. This has been answered, and was answered recently. Lindsey Graham tried this and was shot down almost immediately.
But Miss Lindsey isn’t President of the Senate, will that make a difference?Reading up on this a bit more I was reminded of a case that I can't believe I already forgot. This has been answered, and was answered recently. Lindsey Graham tried this and was shot down almost immediately.
No, if anything he had more protection as senators are specifically mentioned while the president is not.But Miss Lindsey isn’t President of the Senate, will that make a difference?
I’m sure he’ll get to stretch it out for a while, justice moves at a snails pace. No, if anything he had more protection as senators are specifically mentioned while the president is not.
The only relevant question to my understanding is if the subpoena questions are about things that were directly part of his senate business. Pence has already stated Trump’s efforts to have him overturn the election were outside of the scope of his duties and powers so that would be a tough sell.
He's extremely afraid of offending the Trump camp. Snowflakes, everyone of them.Pence, for all his posturing has generally complied. Some might even say his public statements have been helpful to the prosecutors.
Absolutely, that's all that this is about.I suspect Pence just want political excuse - i.e, blame the courts if he testifies.
I don't think Pence is worried about his own criminal exposure as there's zero evidence he did anything wrong.
The question here is if, given the speech and debate clause, the executive branch can force the president of the senate to testify about the performance of his duties, which is honestly a pretty good question.
This is not like Trump's stupidity of endless appeals and if you've seen the steady stream of Trump people testifying and the swiftness through which Trump's attempts to thwart the documents case were tossed out I think it's clear those tactics don't work in a criminal environment, at least as far as grand juries/investigations go.
Yep, old Mr. Smith is turning up the heat. Love the comment by George Conway toward the end of the article. And now they are going after Trump's Lawyer:

news articles like this make it difficult to believe the united states isn't absolutely fucked. i really hope the country can survive, but we're not out of the clear by any meansMichigan GOP wants America to hold its beer.
Elects person to be GOP chair that is crazier than Trump’s pick. She wants to make America Christian again and fight against demons.

“People love to talk about President Trump in a loss mode, but he’s a king. He’s our king,” outgoing GOP co-chair Meshawn Maddock, who was supporting DePerno, said in an interview. “I’m so tired of hearing that our party has moved too far to the right. The problem is we haven’t moved far enough.”

And if they drag it out far enough then Trump will whine he can't be indicted for a crime because it is 'too close' to 2024 election. It’s dragging the process out

Marginally related after Trump agree to a trial in oct (ny); last week he asked for a 6 months delay (which the judge will likely deny) and of course if he is found guilty he will claim he wasn't given adequate time to prepare. His legal team seem puzzled by the nature of evidence against trump (which consist of Trump's financial filings); the whole thing is just typical pattern of delays in hope that justice never reaches him before he dies of old age or get re-elected president.
I will happily admit I am wrong if or when something happens.I am going to do my best not to rub it in but at this point does anyone doubt that Trump will be indicted now?
I have been saying this since January 2021, maybe earlier.View attachment 78333
You really think at this point he won’t be indicted? I admit there is still a remote possibility but when the NYPD is meeting with prosecutors to figure out security arrangements that strongly indicates he will be.I will happily admit I am wrong if or when something happens.
I am sticking with nothing significant will happen.
