Trump's public statement / defense is that he declassified the documents.
He's a special kind of stupid. This is a power he does not have. But Republicans are claiming it is real and it sounds good, so Trump goes for it.

Such a defense cuts off other notions, such as someone else did it! Someone else put it there. Not after he claims knowledge, ownership, etc.
He is cutting himself off from deniability through sheer stupidity.
This is why defense lawyers’ #1 piece of advice to every client they meet is ‘shut up’.

Yeah, the fucking dumbass literally went from plausible deniability to plausible culpability in an instant, right there... and I love it.

In my experience when a person gets classified documents ( Secret, Top Secret etc... ) they are signed out from storage by the custodian as to whom was receiving them and the chain of custody is maintained that way. When they are returned they are signed back in.

They should know without a doubt who signed out those documents. They should also know exactly what was missing and who had custody. They would have known this from day # 1 when he left office that the documents were not returned. Classified at Secret \\ SCI and Top Secret \\ SCI level, I would think they would have executed a warrant long before 18 months had passed.

So your experience is discrepant with what happened. This leads you to conclude what about this case?

I don't know if this was different or not.

I was a Missile Technician A2, A3, Polaris, C3 Poseidon and C4 and D5 Trident 1 and 2 Missile Systems. Handled Secret and Top Secret materials quite often. Chain of custody is a very real thing at least it was then. Seems odd that they would not maintain custody records.
It also seemed odd that they appeared to not know what exactly was missing and who should have had it.

Well it's a little different when that guy is the president of the US, and also the president of a cult, and also the president of a party who has a lot of power in government and are also his cult members, and who has a lot of followers and sympathizers both in and outside of the White House and in and outside of the military.

But we do appreciate your mental gymnastics.

How does one form an opinion without facts being involved? Do you make it a habit of forming opinions without involving facts? If so, that explains a lot of the stupid shit you say.
Oh my goodness the self-owning is amazing.

Even when giving an opinion on food there are often facts involved, such as how much of this fat was used and how flavored it is and how much salt is on it and so much more - let alone for the issues that govern humanity.

Oy vay.

So you know for a fact that the White House doesn't maintain a custody chain for items this classified ( Secret and Top Secret \\SCI) ?

If they don't know who had custody (signed for them) of these documents they need to fix their classified documents custody system. They may very well have this all documented and know exactly who and etc... Odd that they waited 18 months for documents of this high level of classification.

No, of course you don't.

I have no mental gymnastics going on.

Thank you for this. It's good information.

May I point out that the reason 18 months passed before executing the warrant may have been because as you suggested they should have not made a public fuss to recover these documents and they actually attempted multiple times to recover the materials without making a public fuss about it?

They had fucking tapes on Nixon and he never even got a criminal charge. Iran Contra, nothing for Reagan. And on and on and on.

So many white collar criminals get away with so much let alone the president of the United States who has and had many allies in all branches of government.

If you don't see how that makes a difference, and see how much Trump has gotten away with his whole life, then I don't know how to really help you figure this out.

Nixon wasn't charged because he was given a full and unconditional pardon by Ford.

I see that all you want to do is fuss and attempt to belittle someone and not have a discussion.

I've made no comment about how white collar criminals get away all the time. They do, I never claimed that they didn't.

I was just speculating about how they were looking for classified documents of unknown lineage at Mar-A-Lago. When it would have been highly unusual from my experience in handling Secret and Top Secret documents in the military. They would already know what and who.

But feel free to keep kicking and screaming about the subject of the day.

It seems pretty clear that they knew exactly what they were looking for doesn’t it?

Sure, if the same discipline was maintained. We also know that Trump would fire anyone who didnt do shit his way, we also know he left a dumpster fire for the new team to take over, we also know that noone was able to stop him from using his own unsecured phones, we also know he spilled top secret shit to the Russian ambassador, he spilled top secret shit on twitter. Non of us know for sure what the discipline culture on secret stuff in the T admin was like… They tried digging docs out of the toilets for fucks sake after he tried to flush it.
Trump is an unmitigated disaster. Period.

Without knowing anything about it, I would assume each file has a serial number attached to it as in file number BX33114T is going to Donald Trump on this day and retuned on that day checked out by White House Aid Sarah Johnson.

Did they know that Trump had not turned over everything until the mole began to sing? They may have been knowledgeable that they were missing docs but not knowledgeable that Trump still had them until the bird sang…
