No, the FEC has no input here and regardless the FEC would never make a determination that this isn’t a violation in a million years. 0% chance of that.
My words were clumsy, because I wasn't trying to imply any involvement by the FEC, past or future. Nonetheless, it was reported that they dropped a probe into the Stormy Daniels payment in 2021 because the agency is feckless, and that's because half its commissioners are Republicans.

IANAL but I believe there was an underlying federal campaign finance violation that justifies these felony charges. But I also recognize that not everyone agrees on that point, even if NYS law says you don't need a conviction on the underlying crime. Anyway, no sense in game-playing out the appeals, which will take a long time to resolve.

The more salient point is that there are swing voters that do care that Trump is a convicted felon, and how many of them are in the battleground states. Only time will well.

I never enjoyed reading history in grade school. I eventually took an American history course at a junior college during a summer in order to fulfill a university requirement. IIRC it was pretty much 19th century, and I quite enjoyed it.
Yeah history is fun in college. In HS and before it's a bunch of rah rah America the greatest thing ever crap where we ended racism in 1980.

"Even Trump won't vote for himself. He can't vote since he's a felon."

"Now that I convicted, I'm sure to win the black vote." -Trump probably.
Per CNN it appears he'll still be able to vote..

In an interview with CNN, Neil Volz, deputy director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, an organization that works to help reenfranchise formerly incarcerated people, predicted Trump will have little problem voting since Florida actually defers to the jurisdiction of a felony conviction as to whether a felon can vote. In New York, after a law passed in 2021, any convicted felon who is not incarcerated is eligible to register to vote.

Orange on orange - it's a good look Hahahaha

That's what I can't wait for America to see: this pompous fuck without his makeup, in an orange jumpsuit.

Just imagine how bad the guy smells right now, his normal sewer like odor magnified by reeking of fear over the thought of prison. No tiny bottles of diet coke, no two scoops, no Adderall, no name brand adult diapers

My hope is that Trump's long established history of fraud precludes him from enjoying any kind of first timer leniency. Let's remember he hasn't exactly shown contrition, in fact he's gone out of his way to endanger the judge, jury and jeopardize the trial itself, catching gag orders as a result. Nothing Trump has done or said points to him deserving any kind of break in sentencing.

The anticipation is killin me. Each of those convictions carries up to a $5k fine and 4 years in the slammer. If he gets more than a year (as he definitely should) NY law says he has to go to a NY state prison. If it's less than a year, they can send him to a correctional facility, like Rikers. (lol).

Better not be home confinement at Mar a Lago. Traitor and a convict now, quite fitting. 4 years in prison for all 34 convictions sounds ok to me, maximum fine amounts too. Would be great to see them throw the book at him but that won't happen. July 11th is too damn far away, should be like a week or two, tops.

As you say people get away with shit the FEC oversees because they basically never rule on anything. A truly useless institution. They basically throw their hands up and say ‘we can’t decide!’ on everything. I don’t think the FEC dropping a case means much because they drop every case.

I think there are a nonzero number of voters that will care, and we only need a few.

I know the MAGAs will just move the goal post, but they can't post their idiotic "what crimes? bet you can't name 1, he has zero convictions."

Now they'll be saying "he was unfairly convicted! this doesn't count!" As much as I laugh at MAGAs, the "what crimes?" they non stop spam to every Trump related video on YT did annoy the shit out of me. And while I can never tell when they mean what they say and when they're just talking. A lot of MAGAs said "if he's found guilty it make even more people vote for him. And if he went to prison even more people would vote for him" That's too stupid to say, but I think they actually believe non MAGAs will feel empathy due to this being a witch hunt. And run and out and vote for him.

As for the "he's a 1st time offender, a slap on the wrists is all he'll get" While in a lot of circumstances that is the case. I don't recall any trial ever where a person with no priors had 34 felony charges. Due to him being Trump they might go light on him. But 1st time with 34 would be the end for any regular person. Hell, I know people who've been in and out of prison their entire adult life, maybe 10 trips. And none of them have racked up 34 convictions. Even with a life time of court trials and many stints in prison.

Now imagine if he testified in his defense? Jury walks into jury room. Comes back out in 5 minutes.

Next time the average person is convicted of 34 felonies let's see if the will stay out of jail until all appeals are processed. Let's see if that same person gets access to the USSC.

He should see some jail time... 6 months in jail. 10 years probation. 1000 hours of community service.

Does that include ones who showed no remorse, found in contempt repeatedly and attacked every aspect of the system and process from the start?
