I would prefer him to not win too as I think 2016 showed that anyone who wins a major party nomination has a shot at the presidency even if it's not good. I think he would fare considerably worse in 2024 than in 2020 if he did get the nomination though. To me it is abundantly clear the significant majority of the country is over him. Part of the problem is with the EC system. Trump did not win the PV in either election but both were close on the EC count. The GOP has a structural advantage. Which is why I'd rather see him not win their primary.
I don't know how much impact that is going to have on a judge's decision in this case. Lots of factors can impact a sentence, including the judge's personal feelings about the defendant.
I do agree that first offense white collar felonies typically carry a low sentence if not probation, but we'll see. This is Trump and all bets are off.
