The conservative narrative is being formed as we speak. So far the defenses are that it was a "victimless" crime. No one was hurt and Trump paid his creditors back. Also everyone does it and this lawsuit was a politically motivated suit only.

Judge says:

“The fact that no one was hurt does not mean the case gets dismissed,” he said. In his ruling on Tuesday, he granted a motion by James seeking sanctions against Trump’s legal team for repeatedly making arguments already rejected, fining five attorneys $7,500 each.

Ever use that defense when issued a speeding ticket?

If you steal $100 from the register at your work, place a winning bet with it, and then return the $100 you have committed a crime and this is obvious to everyone.

Some of the Trump properties are owned by him, but not all of them. Some of them only license the rights to use his name, though I couldn't tell you which is which off the top of my head.

The properties that aren't actually owned by him only have to change the name of the hotel/resort/property. They would likely be able to stop paying the licensing then, too.

Damn, I should have embezzled my cash account to support my site, take it to the casino, make my wins and told nobody. What a dope I was.

Wonder what happens to the people renting/leasing at trump tower and the other properties ?
Forbes had his net at 2.5 B as of 2022, but another savvy member has noted, I'm betting at least half that is bullshit, probably more.

Now . . . James is fining him 250M.

First, all of his properties have to be "disgorged." That means that receivers have to be appointed.

Then, what happens to each property is up in the air. What we know for sure is that he's not getting them back - at least that's my reading of all of the legal commentary to date.

That means that in some way, they're going to be sold or "transferred." Not sure what the latter means in this context but cable news isn't big on going far into the weeds.

Summary - he's been butt fucked.

edit: Depending on how "trumped up" his valuations are, he might see some cash at the end of this but I'm doubtful.

What's funny to me is how all of those units that were rented/leased out by Trump as a means to curry favor from him while he ran his scam operation out of the White House are holding in one hand a bag full of empty unfulfilled promises and another bag full of bullshit in the other.

Justice and karma working hand in hand for the win.
