The Trump administration has instituted a media blackout at the Environmental Protection Agency and barred staff from awarding any new contracts or grants.

Emails sent to EPA staff since President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Friday and reviewed by The Associated Press detailed the specific prohibitions banning press releases, blog updates or posts to the agency’s social media accounts.

The Trump administration has also ordered a ‘‘temporary suspension’’ of all new business activities at the department, including issuing task orders or work assignments to EPA contractors. The orders are expected to have a significant and immediate impact on EPA activities nationwide.

The EPA did not respond to phone calls and emails requesting comment Monday or Tuesday.

Hiring freeze on the government, gag orders, stop work on all new products.

If you work for the federal government, the message is clear, go find private employment. And lol if you don't think the government has good workers. There are tons of really talented, hard working people working for the federal government that make less than they could in the private sector because they like the stability or they believe in their mission. The best ones will leave because they can find other jobs, and what's left over will be the people that couldn't get other jobs.

As bad as I feared this administration could be, it has been worse. I have a feeling it's going to get a whole lot worse too.

Instead of a criminal prosecution, the EPA’s internal investigators “will submit a report of an investigation to the agency that details the findings of our investigation,” OIG spokesman Jeff Lagda said in response to queries.

“The agency, not the OIG, will then determine what administrative action they may take against the employee based on that report,” Lagda said. “The EPA will have to report to the OIG what administrative action the EPA will undertake.” "

What will be interesting is to see how the Republicans, and I don't mean Trumpites will react. Republicans I know didn't want him to win the nomination and now they're as upset as anyone. There's probably a fair number which will side with Dems on a lot of issues and Dandy Don is probably not going to have the obedience he feels he deserves.

I'd feel better about this if it were some kind of short term measure with a set time limit (e.g. 30 days or something) just so his political appointees can get in place and perform normal executive oversight of communications. This however seems rather open-ended and is probably going to be very unsettling for the employees and those who care about these issues or government transparency in general.
