So far am not convinced the shooter had any 'political' motivation at all. I note it's been reported that his father owned at least 20 guns, though.

Agreed. But, I don't think we can discount the gun culture the Republicans push and the easy access to things like his AR-15.

I have a crazy theory. What if he did all this to prove to his friends who told him he was a bad shot, that he was actually a good shot. And shooting the president would be a grand way to do that. How crazy would that be?

Is a republic a democracy?
I wouldn't characterize a republic as a pure democracy as there are differences between the two.

In a democracy, the majority rules and their votes create law while the minority can be left unprotected.

In a republic, representatives, who are bound by rules of a constitution, are elected to create laws that protect the minority from the will of the majority.

Our system can more accurately be described as a democratic republic or a representative democracy.

I'm sure you already know these basic facts so let's hear your "gotcha".

No gotcha, just trying to establish if you're half sane or not.

Except right now the rules have been twisted to give the minority too much control. Republicans can hold majority power with minority support, and the minority can block almost all change even when >70% of the population desires that change.

Who doesn't love the tyranny of the minority....

I for one think greenman alone should make all the laws. I mean if going with the minority there is no bottom, until you get down to one person.

Well, until a conviction has been entered into the public record, there is still the possibility that it may never happen. Until it does, he is not a "convicted felon". I don't make the rules. That's just how the law works in NY.

You can call it what you like. You always have the choice to seek truth or to seek confirmations and affirmation of your feelings. When you choose the latter, don't be surprised to find that everything you believe is a lie.
This is a meaningless distinction from an electoral perspective. Trump was found guilty of over 30 felonies by a jury of his peers.

The question for voters is not if Trump should be imprisoned but if in their estimation that outcome indicates Trump is a criminal, which is what people really mean.

Similarly, Trump is an adjudicated rapist even though he was not found technically guilty of rape.

The tyranny of the minority eventually leads to one thing.. the massive lashout of the majority.

That too is in the cards in the not too distant future once we get leaders who get off on sadism!

They think it's Biden but just wait a few years..

Any evidence for this claim? Or you are the source?
The victim (the person being talked about in the chain you replied to) was at a Trump rally. He got there early enough to be on stage. His wife told the NYP he was a big Republican and supported Trump. Him being a Trump supporter is pretty obvious.

He was a Trump supporter. This is what you're asking for evidence of? If the guy killed at the Trump Rally sitting in the stands with his family was a Trump supporter?

Seriously?

Well, the statement from his wife kinda solidifies that.

Dude...

When your opinion is ‘I’m okay with ending democracy’ what exactly did you expect?
I don't recall ever posting that statement.
I am over the whole "Trump will end democracy" thing. It's just FUD used to frighten rubes, a crock of shit. If Trump is elected president he'll serve for four years, leave, and spend the rest of his life telling the world his was the greatest presidency ever.
Just so we're clear, my opinion is that our republic will stand. The democratic process will continue to function as intended, and the fringes will continue to proclaim that the other side is a clear and present danger that must be stopped.

It's already broken. Trump's Supreme Court appointees saw to it.
The purpose of the system is what it does. In Greenman's view (based on his posting), minority rule by and for conservatives is perfectly fine. Like other conservatives, he doesn't have to face the consequences of his choices.
