Actually both are relatively low cost programs that provide a multitude of jobs to people who pay taxes. I guess Trump has a problem with any organizations who don't always speak glowingly of der Fuhrer. I'm sure if he could he would probably funnel about a billion a year in subsidies to Faux News, as they are the only truthful news organization in the country. Heil Trump!

PBS and NPR bend over so far backward to accommodate a conservative perspective and with such obvious political subservience to maintaining funding, I no longer donate to them. Money corrupts everything.

Why should they be subsidized? Make a business case for it.

Regarding PBS, I pay through the fees I pay to my cable provider whether I watch it or not. If I do choose to watch, I then get to watch commercials before much of that programming. Several times a year, I can choose to watch hours and hours of fundraising drives for weeks at a time. The people behind PBS are resourceful people that have many revenue streams available to them.

I can make similar arguments for some of those aspects in regards to NPR. That these two entities are independent of commercialization and that they are apolitical are antiquated notions. Carryovers from a time long ago. They have been sucking at the corporate teat for a long, long time.

Most importantly, the percentage of funding they get from the .gov is minuscule. Research it. They will barely know it's missing.

When I was young I hated Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street. I loved my GI Joe and Thundercats.

Most republicans I know inhabit a reality of fear and dismay where the country is literally falling apart--all caused by illegals, terrorists and welfare druggies. NPR uses big words and goes into depth on issues, so of course Trump would hate it. Boring!

Most of the shows I listen to on NPR seem politically agnostic to me. ymmv of course.

The real problem is that facts have a liberal bias. NPR & PBS refer to them all too often for right ravers to be comfortable. Besides that, they seem to believe that reality TV has something to do with reality...
