The funny thing about you people is that you are just the flip side of the neo-cons who thought they could impose democracy on the middle east. Instead now you have the arrogance to believe that you can impose western values and a reformation of Islam through your apologism and deliberate blindness to the nature of Islam. Yes you the western liberal will reform and assimilate these people when the examples of france and the other countries throughout europe exist, where when the minority grows to a critical mass, blood spills on the streets at an ever more frequent rate. The sheer arrogance of your belief in believing your lefty notions can reform a religion which hasn't reformed over 1400 years makes neo-cons almost seem reasonable in comparison.
You have the naive comparing it to mormons of all groups, when even muslims themselves will explain that Islam isn't just a religion it is a "way of life" because it prescribes the way not just your personal faith, but how the entire society, your family, and your government should be run. It is a total system, with the example made by its founder who combined and implemented state, religious, and military in his life time, and spread his faith through conquest, through the sword. These factors make it inherently prone to back sliding, to regression, the fundamentalists always have an undeniable case to make, the barely repressed tension between that call to order the world based on islam and modernity will always exist and is only effectively suppressed when they exist as a super minority in a western society.

It is this blindness which leads leaders like Merkel to continue down their paths of self destruction because to acknowledge valid concerns over religion and culture is labeled perversely as "racist" when these things are ideology and belief, not race. A man exposed to have financial motivations for backing this candidate, and ideological contradictory beliefs exposed by his own writings, which were made long before he was in the spot light, and thus likely to be a more honest picture of his true beliefs.
