Democrats giving stuff to GOP politicians and supporters reminds me of Lucy and the football. Yeah I'm old, look it up if you want.

Obama and the "negotiations" with the GOP over health care a good example. Shows you want you get when you use good faith with them.

Next time she won't pull it away! Next time that growling dog won't bite me when I try to hand feed some meat. Might be time to just save your hand.

The funny thing is if "the liberal media" was anything like conservative media that's exactly what they'd show constantly, just like Fox does with NYC/Chicago/etc...
I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 60 odd years, I don't need any media to show me what it's like. Parts of it are very nice indeed, parts of it are like a third world country after a major earthquake. I don't miss it at all.

Trump telling somebody who is asking him a question what they want to hear? Unprecedended lol.

He said the same thing in 2015 and then undertook every possible action to collapse legal immigration once in office. I don't have to pretend this is real and neither should anybody else.
Exactly. The 2016 campaign was full of Trump promising everything to everyone. Was an obvious lie every time.

If was funny when during the Trump trial some reporter from a right wing channel was outside the courthouse and was like ‘NYC is actually way nicer than I was led to believe!’

To be fair, didn't John McCain finally (knowing he was dying and wouldn't need to campaign again) finally show a spine and torpedo the GOP's new health care plan under Trump? That was 2017 so under Trump.

It was of course utter shit, so even if it would have passed it wouldn't have been "best health care ever".

San Francisco is like most major cities…beautiful from a distance…dirty and ugly up close.

San Francisco is like anywhere in the world where humans habitate on a continual basis...beautiful from a distance...dirty and ugly up close.

Comparing a city or some backwoods shitwater town to a national park or uninhabitated forest is an apples-to-dogshit comparison. Always has been, always will be.

In fact, that's why relatively forward-thinking people who were born hundreds of years ago started creating state and national parks. Because humanity is generally great at turning a beautiful environment into a sewer in order to make some money.

When Donald just gets a little more senile and the dementia starts to kick in harder, he would have finished that sentence with 'will get Green cards, if they're white of course' and that will be the best campaign ad for the Democrats. It could happen any day now.

Imagine shitting on cities just for being cities, seeing no beauty in them, etc... That is literally such an unevolved statement full of as much ignorance as the biggest Trumphumper spews. Congratulations for that accomplishment, it's not easy.

If it weren't for cities where people actually evolve, we would be a third world nation right now, and living under the rule of white theocratic nationalists, because, for some reason, in these just ugly shitty cities that are horrible, somehow they produce the highest ratio of people that don't vote for pure evil. I mean, and not to mention, the vast majority of the culture and are the biggest drivers of the economy.

It's funny but really fucking scary that people still think like this.

When I was young, and not afraid of anything, I loved living in one of the worst neighborhoods in Atlanta when I was going to tech school. Met, all kinds of strange, and interesting street people (burnt out hippie/gay district). I did a stent in Plantation/Lauderhill area of FL for almost 3 years working for Motorola living in one of the most artificial environments I could imagine, down there. All the people were from somewhere else although mostly the NE on that side of FL escaping from what they thought was the awful weather. I then moved to Chicago to work for Motorola in Schamburg, living in Rogers Park doing the reverse commute from the city to the burbs. I really enjoyed that urban living then. The weather on the other hand was some of the most hideous. First winter, record cold, second winter record snow and cold. Summers miserably hot, virtually no fall or spring.
Had to move on. Since then, exceprt for about 2 years in Anaheim/Orange, CA I've lived in medium sized towns or exurbs. When I lived in the OC it was great except for way too many people, I enjoyed that area very much as there was really no excuse not to find something interesting to do.
I'm older and have really slowed down and I don't think I could handle all those people and an urban environment so much anymore.

I was just in Tokyo a week ago. That place is pretty damn nice up close too.

Exactly, do what you want to do. I am in no way saying everyone should live in cities - if you like suburbia or more rural, go for it. But be informed and more open to other things, and to be so damn ignorant about something so fundamental as 'cities are bad', is just not good for society. It's Trumpy level of ignorance, and that's not good for anyone.

A whole bunch of the Bay Area is like that.
I just drove 68 miles to pick up a walnut slab for a bench I'm building, 50 of those miles were empty forest with two stop lights between me and the place I went to.

Take a walk where tourists aren't funneled. Hop down in the sewers.

If there are humans living there, it can be just as dirty and ugly as whatever arbitrary city you want to point at and say 'eww gross'.

Typically, if someone is singling out San Francisco, or Chicago, there's a specific reason why, and that specific reason is almost always 100% bullshit nonsense.

Probably a reason for that. Or actually many.

You can bet your mortgage that not a single one of those reasons ever occurred to Mr. Greenjeans.

I can drive the ~45 miles to New Albany, Indiana from my house through the shitty parts of the city of Louisville to pick up the live edge slabs of maple for my mantle.

There's probably umpteen million lights, shitty roads, shitty drivers, and shitty people too. I'll still get my slabs though.

Not the worst idea I've heard this week.
Yeah, I worst with several foreign students when I was graduate school. I always thought it was nuts that we'd pay to educate them and then send them back to their country with all that knowledge and skills or make them jump threw a ton of hoops to stay here.

The former President has also spoke with the head of the UFC about if they’d be interested in having a UFC championship for a presumably illegal immigrant to earn citizenship.
Yes he really did this, I am not kidding.

Talk about shitholes. It seems Charleston, SC is having some kind of renaissance. I remember being sent to a field site we had there when the shipyard was still certified to work on nuclear reactors (they subsequently were de-certified). I stayed at a Sheridan near an airport that also served as a base for big transport jets. Driving from there to the shipyard you go through about 6 blocks of some of the worst public housing I ever saw in my life.
Things were so out of control there that the bars only served alcohol from airplane miniatures so you could be guaranteed you weren't drinking watered down liquor. There were still private clubs that operated there too with B girls and the whole works. Things got so bad there that the Navy gave up on the place and moved out.

Live edge is way over done, and not something I ever cared for. The slabs I buy aren't good enough for the live edge or epoxy river stuff. I rip the heartwood out of them and build with that. My cost ends up around 30% of what the big box stores charge.
The point of my little story a few posts up was that I now live in a low population area. Having moved from a very densely populated area. For me it's wonderful, though I fully understand that it's not for everyone.

ROFL!!!!!!! So…Trump is pro-DREAM Act now???

To think these fucking MAGA GED-toting meat heads thought Trump really gave a damn for any of them. Sorry—he just blurted out what his Russian, Chinese and Indian donors have been asking for.

“What I want to do, and what I will do, is you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically, as part of your diploma, a green card to be able to stay in this country,” the presumptive GOP nominee said on “The All-In Podcast,” which aired Thursday.

He continued, “And that includes junior colleges too. Anybody graduates from a college — you go in there for two years or four years. If you graduate, or you get a doctorate degree from a college, you should be able to stay in this country.”

This is how you know their actions are just performative. We need to prevent immigration from Latin countries to protect our low skill jobs but at the same time they want to increase the competition for higher skill jobs with foreign students.

Charleston is growing quite rapidly. It has also become a popular alternative for retirees who don't want to move to Florida.
