I think if the feds had named it the "National Alert System" instead of the "Presidential Alert System" the care level would plummet. I'd still want to turn them off like I do all the other alerts and notifications on my phone.

You people that don't want these alerts are absolutely mentally deficient. You'll also be the ones screaming the loudest when shtf and you didn't get notified. There are dead people all over California that if they were alive, would probably wish they would have been notified of the event that killed them.

But honestly the notifications won't do most of you any good. You don't have a plan or a bug out bag nor do you know the difference between a corn seen and a cheeseburger seed.

But that's really OK. The country needs a reset anyway.

Haha. You act as if the same guy who gave away top secrets to the Russians and had to be told 3 times why we can't use our nukes isn't capable of sending our a MAGA just before the elections just to troll the nation.

You’re giving him too much credit, he’s not an evil genius.

If he was though you’d have to thank Obama for laying the infrastructure of all those welfare phones cause I don’t think most people would be swayed by such a message.

If you think you can "bug out" and outrun a nuclear bomb, good luck!

I'm curious as to what sort of emergency requires the entire nation to get an alert about it and that that alert would let them take useful action.

You get mandatory weather alerts?
Phones pop up a weather warning, like flood warnings or tornado warning. Happens but not that often.

Another 9-11 or worse....
Thing was a test of a new system it really was nothing

IIRC, The "welfare phone" program started with an Act back in the 90s. The ball started rolling with Bush and finally got implemented during Obama's time. The president has nothing with this program. Kind of like how this alert got started.

Absolutely correct, if I remember correctly Katrina sped the program up because so many wire lines were ruined.

And then there is this, legit?

You'd better believe it which is why the fed bars cells phones from many of their buildings. While we're talking about eavesdropping those innocent looking smoke detectors on the walls of your home are a giant parallel microphone system for law enforcement in your home so everybody knows what room you're in and you have no secrets.

I thought that that was a different thing.

What sort of action would you need to take if 9-11 happened and you lived in Seattle that could be described in a text message?

Well it would be good to know that all planes are grounded. Again it’s a test of a national emergency network the idea is you never use it.
Really wasn’t a big deal everyone’s phone got a message on it.

You're suggesting the feds ban cell phones from their buildings because they don't want the feds spying on them?
I'm pretty sure it's more to do with cameras and microphones in areas where sensitive data might be present (so it can't be recorded by others, whether purposeful or not).
