Still can't bring myself to feel outrage over the call. Taiwan has been a de facto nation for awhile now. I think like Cuba this island is due for the 21st century refresh and if Beijing doesn't like it tough shit. I hope Trump accelerates military aid to them and deepens support for/work with Japan and Singapore too. China's campaign against neighbors, the rule of law, and the maritime environment need to be stopped asap. I don't care how victimized they feel, I don't buy any of their propaganda and I can't blame anyone for not wanting to be held under Beijing's yoke. Two words: Falun gong.

As for trade war, surely the Chinese market & currency manipulation needs a fitting reply & if the US is going back on TTP this could be the only other alternative.

Also it's not like China can afford a trade war, a major importer (of Chinese goods) can show the rest of the world how to deal with them.

Probably the only thing, for now, that I support from the President elect.

I know I'm reaching but imagine had Chamberlain & France tried to stop Hitler before the war came to their shores, also ISIS anyone? You could extend this analogy to trade, so for example why hasn't UK done much about the Chinese dumping their steel, the EU & US (India, Japan et al) have done something but UK has mostly resisted any action on this front ~ lo & behold the Tatas decided to sell their plant

China is doing this in many industries & too many fronts, if the global trade is to remain as free as it has then there should be disincentives wrt such practices & you can't fear repercussions when the other side is clearly working against your interests & citizens!
