I am happy to be wrong here. I thought SCOTUS was going to delay for another two months to obviate the subpoena.
Yeah, I'm shocked.

Who sets the schedule of when a case is heard and/or when the vedict is released?
Roberts?

In my opinion the Republican objective has undergone a shift and will now be trying to get rid of Trump while protecting the Republican power structure. I think that means the Supreme court, like the rest of the GOP will be OK with shafting Trump while retaining a hard right stance on eliminating voting rights and anything that fosters majority rule.

A party that is OK with treason to the nation should have no problem turning traitor to Trump. It's pretty clear to me Trump is toast. I doubt he will be the nominee. He will probably quit the race rather than lose. There are plenty of assholes in that party to take his place. And the court gets to pretend objectivity.

They are trying to help get rid of the dead weight they see as Trump so they can move on to supporting DeSanctimonious. They are just furthering the GQP agenda. It's still a political move.

They dragged this out for 3 years so it wouldn't affect 2020 and then they gave it to the midterms to see that Trump is more of a drag on general elections than not. So they are letting more arrows hit the deadweight.

The whole thing was BS because it dragged out, with the knowledge that the House has 2-year terms. The precedent being set is for the White House to stonewall everything until a more favorable congress is sworn in so that the issue is dropped altogether.

MAGAs like to say Trump's taxes are a nothingburger, but no one spends 6 years in the courts and who-knows-how-many-millions in legal costs to protect a nothingburger.
Expect the RWNJ media to go full tilt on distractions as more comes to light.

Considering all the heat on SCUTUS makes it explainable. I also thought they would stall until Jan

Absent the current SCUTUS corruption stories out in public they would have delayed

They calculated that once the GQP takes the house they would bury it. And since they want to do damage to Trump now that they see the GQP elite are trying to move on from him, they released them now so the Dems can do something with them. It's a total political calculation.

It's funny to think that the hard-right SCOTUS Trump was so keen to celebrate may be the very thing that takes him down.

And if it does, I'll be very curious to see how Trump's downfall affects the GOP's chances in 2024. Some of his backers were only fair weather friends who would vote for anyone with an "(R)" after their name, but he did manage to cultivate a base of diehard supporters who will feel betrayed if he goes to prison or is obviously shunted out of the way. They probably won't vote Democrat, but they may stay home if they don't get the Trump dictatorship they were promised.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes?

No surprise that evil people will turn on literally anyone since ethical concepts like "right" and "wrong" don't actually apply to them. Trump is getting what he deserves.

Yeah, not shocking at all... to everyone except Trump and his most loyal fans, anyway. It was pretty clear to those with a modicum of intelligence that the GOP tied itself to Trump only because he won the 2016 primary and represented their only hope of retaking political control. The establishment tolerated Trump as long as he continued to produce results, but was clearly ready to drop him like a hot potato the moment he struggled.

If there's a surprise, it's that the 2020 election and January 6th insurrection didn't produce an obvious change of attitude; it wasn't until that horrible behavior translated to poor midterm results this year that the GOP went knives-out. I'm sure the Republican elites privately felt that Trump was finished two years ago, but didn't want to say it in the off chance the man still had some sway in 2022.

One of the senior members interviewed. Yeah too late to do any policy but they are pressing through reviewing the returns. Plan is vote it out of committee and get it to vote in the full house to get the returns released to the public.

Well now that they have the tax returns, after all these years, it had better be well worth it. It had better lead to proof of.... something that Donald Trump did that was really really REALLY bad. And to release the returns to the public just to embarrass Trump.... that isn't good enough. If embarrassment is all they have then this is a big win for Trump.
