I heard Asheville was a progressive oasis surrounded by a sea of regressive red primitives. The surrounding Trumpists have invaded?
that's a relatively new thing. Asheville only started turning liberal in the early-mid nineties when the hippies started invading because it was a "quant" place to start their human wax candle and granola-based wind chime and dulcimer businesses.
There remains a strong local population there that goes back generations, and being surrounded of course by all of Western NC, it is no surprise. Boone, however (ASU), has a longer history of being a bit more progressive, as you'd expect of any college town.
