That's already happening. Trump scuttling the TPP didn't help much. China is looking to fill the void left by the US (it's called the RECP). They have also been investing a lot of money into more developmentally challenged countries for quite a while. More developed countries like aus have problems with chinese investment when it ultimately comes from the central committee.

Other than that though it's all good. China is currently the worlds rising power both economically and militarily. Don't worry though trump knows what he is doing. You have seen the apprentice right? He really knows how to point at someone and shout you are fired! Which shows the world he is a real tough guy.

nope. don't watch those kinds of shows. it is sad to see such as ignominious end to the american empire though. it's been going down slowly for a while but damn if little finger hasn't sped that up. when O was pres i wouldn't have imagined world leaders openly mocking el presidente.

Our PM got busted doing that. Trump is a joke. And it would be funny if he didn't have so much power. Obama was pro TPP (yes I know it's good but also bad) maybe he understood the strategic importance? As a side note no empire exists forever. History has shown there is always another that takes it's place.

Send in the Koosh!
Trump could threaten to send Ivanka and dress Lil Kim up in some ladies designer clothes. Then they would sit him in a chair and have the boys read him Trump's best quotes over and over again until he capitulates.

Wouldn't it be hard to put sanctions on China? Given just about everything is manufactured there and a lot of it is for American companies. Like Apple, AMD, Intel, dell etc. Also south Korean companies have a lot of stuff manufactured there. Samsung, LG etc.

The problem is China now holds all of the cards because they have all of the large scale manufacturing capability and an endless supply of communist stooges who do what they are told.

The sanctions on Russia for (allegedly) doing what, who, me? Invasions off neighbouring countries just made them more belligerent (they are still in effect right?) although it's not like we are missing out on much when it comes to Russian exports.

I look forward to being wowed by the world's best president, diplomat and dad.
This looks like a job for Dennis Rodman.

We could start by not allowing Chinese communist stooges to launder, I mean invest, in American real estate.

That's one of the ways the Chinese invest here also. 30 odd billion in real estate last year. Each purchase has to pass a foreign investment review board first. They also pay a foreign investment tax.

Property investment by Chinese nationals will never be stopped here there is far to much money being made by everyone including state governments etc.

30 odd billion is serious money. I am a cynic but at the end of the day money makes the world go around. Then there is Europe to invest in.......

You would think that given where we are located (south east Asia sort of....;p) that north Korea would concern us a lot. I cannot recall anyone I know having mentioned it. No one cares. There is probably a reason for that.

Basically. Relax people.

It really is staggering and depressing how far we've sold our souls in favor of corporate profits and materialism, with the most "progressive" parts of the country in some ways being the biggest culprits.

Ha. I used to work in the defence industry and the corruption was nuts. The multi national I used work for is notorious for it.* Still the world keeps on turning. Right?

It's good stuff.

Of course for the company it's not corruption it's just how business is done in that part of the world and.......shareholders. I should have just stuck to driving a forklift.

*not that I was involved in any of that I was just a cog in the machine.

The thing with the Chinese is they plan ahead. Sure the US could quite easily build the same factories locally but how will that effect the relevant corporations profits? Their profits won't be increasing that's for sure.

Not as easy as you would think. GE tried to open a dishwasher factory in Louisville and ended up bringing in Chinese to set up and run the place for a time as the experience wasn't there.

Also, so many of the components in making a factory (industrial automation) are made in China. If trade were to be blocked, would be nearly impossible to build a factory here. Not enough components to build and run most of the equipment. Even the companies that used to make industrial automated controllers like Allen Bradley (Rockwell) which made stuff in Wisconsin have shifted to China for production now.

An example of how prices have changed: 20+ years ago, inductive proximity sensors were $70-$100 each with the cables costing $25 - all made in USA. Today, most of that stuff is made in China (almost everything of the sort) can be had for $8-$10 for the proximity sensors and the cables can be had for as low as $5 each.

Particularly funny when conservatives then pretend to be capitalists when convenient.

This, an interminable and insufferable thousand times this. Bloviating out of his ass of a mouth seems to be a talent of his that has no limit to its exasperating tendencies.

The guy defaults to empty threats like he was a snarky condescending self-righteous narcissistic big time wanna be real estate magnate or something.

This worked for him in life because all of his "deals" were done in a manner of months, forgotten about with no real effects or repercussions (to him, of course, and outside of courts) within a year or so.

It is all he knows. Bluster, lie, scream, bluster some more. Talk out of his distended butthole face and keep doing it until everyone else shuts up. Problem is, that doesn't work here. He's on record. The world sees him, and he's now supposed to be in charge of policy that actually matters. He's supposed to be "dealing" with world leaders, and not a single one of them doesn't see him for the complete maggot that he is. Trump is an outright disaster, and every second he sits in that office, pretending to speak for this country, the USA is further diminished. Our authority is completely shredded and if it manages to recover, it will only do so once this tub of butter is dragged out screaming.

But it was all worth it because librul tears, right? Republicans own this.

If anything that's the main benefit of capitalism, as american eng. moved onto more technologically advanced endeavors like computing, and also importing the talent to do it given most of the grad students in growth fields aren't us born.

American politics these days is basically a competition between two groups, one preparing for the future and the other looking to conserve a past that's gone anyway.

It's like the sanctions against Iran, during which the USA kept selling stuff most of the time. But it threatens to punish other countries, many of which (mostly the smaller US allies) will refrain from selling out of fear. Meanwhile all those strong enough to show the US the middle finger (Russia, China) just keep on selling as well.

Link?

People who didn't have a problem with Cheney and Iran are going to sound pretty stupid trying to paint their dreaded proggies as icons of profits over patriotism. The GOP has that locked down in spades, everyone else is an amateur by comparison.

This 'money over all else' affliction is what had republican politicians giving 9/11 first responders and vets the finger, while handing out subsidies, outsourcing credits and tax breaks to foreign companies. It was the progressives and Jon Stewart who howled bloody murder over it and got it to stop.

I was talking about the staggering wealth disparity you see in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, etc. Those are all progressive places with access to people of incredible wealth, but not many solutions.

Once Trump renders the unproductive obstructionists obsolete, the underlying class and wealth distribution issues still remain. I laugh whenever I see an Obama or I'm With Her sticker on the back of a Range Rover or other status vehicle.

So on the one hand we have the better-off who still vote to pay redistributive taxes out of greater social ethics, and on the other we have people like you.

Easy to see why the latter do what they can to vilify the former.

Trump will only stop trading with countries that do not directly impact any of his or his family members businesses. If it hurts your business oh well.
