So the US retaliates against unfair practices by China and you support China?

The other option is to actually negotiate vs ruling via twitter posts. Just because someone doesn't like how Trump is handling this doesn't mean that they love how China does business.

I don't think he is supporting China, I think rather he is pointing out that you don't need a crystal ball to see this coming. It takes some special dumb to think that China would just accept this.

If Trump isn't manipulating the market for personal gain, he's an even a bigger idiot than he appears.

oh he is making money on this.

If you were an unscrupulous person and you wanted to make money quickly, being president and purposely adding instability to the market would probably be the best way to do it.

I don't see any other reason why trump would say the stuff he does.

So the question then becomes, is trump super incompetent or super corrupt? He could be both but you usually don't get far by being both.

You either have to subscribe to the notion that Tump is some sort of "stable genius" supervillan playing 87 dimensional chess or that he's an old man with extremely limited knowledge yet is supremely confident in his beliefs and abilities regardless of the facts.

Option 2 sounds a lot more plausible if you know anybody of his means/position/generation. Why old rich white dudes love him so much.

Yes, the most likely answer is this is the playbook he knows, so this is the playbook he uses. If anyone here is under the illusion that he came to this decision after a sober evaluation of the facts and careful thought of the second and third order effects...well...Jesus.

But he is going to save like 12 American jobs (we'll ignore the millions that would be lost in a full on trade war). Feel the MAGA! Hope you lubed up bigly first.

Bingo. I've posted multiple times on how China is operating. I can appreciate their method while being unhappy about how they're getting an advantage from it (where I do the opposite for the US, where I can appreciate the advantages we got, but can be unhappy about how we got them). For instance, I've posted about how China is going global (and diversifying from the US), by doing large public works projects in places like Africa. They're able to do it cheap for various reasons but partly because they don't have a lot of concern about worker safety, so they're able to operate like the US back when we were doing things like that where casualties were just part of the goal. And like how they legitimized their IP theft. They were smart to do it. I can see it for being a disadvantage to others, but its not like others were exactly being nice to China. They just saw a way to rapidly advance through the stages of industrialization. That's why they're doing a big push to develop green technology, as then they can reap the industrial might while mitigating the negatives (and it also gives them a leg up when America whines about China not doing their part about climate change as an excuse for America to not do its share). They get all the benefits while the US is going to look like stupid assholes, when China is helping other nations develop using cleaner energy and America is bitching about China cheating. Plus it'll start hitting our fossil fuel companies hard and that's going to hit our stock market hard.

If you were an unscrupulous person and you wanted to make money quickly, being president and purposely adding instability to the market would probably be the best way to do it.

He's both super corrupt and super incompetent. He's like a hurricane of it. Its kinda funny though, he wants notoriety, and he'll get it. But its not gonna be the good kind. Him and his name will be remembered, but it'll be because it is going to turn into an adjective or verb, for describing people that are like gods of Dunning-Kruger Effect, where their incompetence is so rampant that it fuels their corruption, and its so ridiculously apparent that it stupefies people, letting them be able to get away with it and cause damage that they shouldn't have.

Meanwhile I might have to delay my retirement because some orange asshole wants to play life with other people lifes, dipshit. I am so fucking furious over this excuse of a human turd feces.

The thing is, you can't even really wholly blame Turmp. He's a symptom of the problem. The stock market wanted their greed to be allowed to run unfettered, and so they get the people that will enable that into office. That they can't see how naturally that keeps leading to major problems. Same with basically ever aspect of conservative ideology. They resort to whatever means to get what they want, but then aren't happy when that doesn't go as they thought because they refuse to see how it naturally leads to worse problems. Its like they're trying to do high level calculus using just basic addition and subtraction, and then they can't figure out why the numbers don't work out right.

So if Trump's imposition of tariffs is going to kill our economy is Xi's doing likewise going to kill China's?

And like I posted earlier here, basic building materials going up as well. Not a problem for you of course because it's not like basic building materials affect anyone at all.

Nope, not a problem for me at all.

If building material costs go up it will be a problem for those who intend to build/buy real estate in the future. Those who already own will likely see some benefit. When the cost for new construction goes up the value of existing r/e increases too.

"The other guy supports killing babies and gays getting hitched? How could I vote fore that?" You all are completely disconnected from the average thought process of the hardened republican.

Yes I understand that the only way to change an assholes mind is to be visited by ghosts on Christmas Eve or relive groundhogs day over and over again.

There is however a third way and that’s when a conservative actually experiences the downsides of their ideology. Dick Cheney doesn’t hate gays after all.

My main point is it looks like China is deliberately targeting certain imports to cause the most pain not only economically but politically to the current administration.

Even if they soybean farmers ultimately vote GOP they are going to spend the next several months bitching to their GOP rep and being a pain in the ass of the administration.

And maybe just maybe a few won’t vote for the most MAGA candidate in the upcoming primaries.

Only because new construction would slow.

One of the areas of import China is targeting for tariffs is soybeans. Why soybeans you may ask? Well look at this:

Compared to the 2016 electoral map:

Well the president shouldn’t worry I’m sure the soybean farmers who’ll stand to lose millions will understand his nuanced approach to international trade and rein in their economic anxiety when voting this November. Right?

He doesn't give a rats ass about farmers, only nazis who are "fine people".

http://theweek.com/articles/765276/how-china-win-trade-war-1-move

Suprised no one here has mentioned that China is one of the only countries that produces rare earth minerals the we have become so dependent on.

"These are elements like dysprosium, neodymium, gadolinium, and ytterbium. They aren't actually rare, but they do play crucial roles in everything from smart phones to electric car motors, hard drives, wind turbines, military radar, smart bombs, laser guidance, and more. They're also quite difficult to mine and process."

" It turns out the United States is almost entirely dependent on foreign suppliers for rare earth metals. More importantly, it's almost entirely dependent on China specifically for rare earth metals that have been processed into a final and usable form."

Interesting article.
