I saw this posted in the other thread and other places online. Honestly, I can't believe it. Like, I know it's ENTIRELY within the realm of possibility and all, but my brain just refuses to accept that this is a real thing.

I don't think I'd really call guessing someone's password manually "hacking".
I dunno if I buy it or not, but it does have the air of plausibility, if not likeliness.

He could have proved he'd 'hacked' it by tweeting something from the account. But what could he tweet that was absurd enough that one could be sure it wasn't just Trump?
Also - how serious of a crime would have been if he'd done that? Presumably it would be seriously illegal, not just a matter of Twitter terms-of-service. I mean he could have used it to declare war on Iran...or Canada.

Well, like it coyly says in the article, maybe he retweeted that Babylon Bee story, maybe he didn't...

Of course his "maga2020!" password was hacked. He included a lowercase letter, a number and an allowed character but HE LEFT OUT THE CAPITAL LETTER. Geez, doesn't he know the recommended best practices for mostest securest bestest passwords in the world?

I’m a little bit disappointed that the guy’s first action upon cracking the password wasn’t to change it, and let the DumpsterFire meltdown for a day or so, before notifying WH authorities.

The hacker likely didn’t have access to Trumps ‘TittyTwittyBoy@aol.com’ email so he could click the verification link asking him to verify the password change.

Any unauthorized access to computer systems is frowned upon.

I'm just academically-curious though as to whether it would be extra-special-double-frowned upon if it's the President's account. There must, surely, be some sort of particular law relating to that? Given the amount of damage that could be done by someone hijacking Trump's account - to financial markets or to international relations - one would think it would carry heavy legal penalties. Or did nobody ever anticipate a President having a social-media account?

I’m surprised some random black hat did not hack into it sooner and tweeted something hilarious like: “I love getting up in the morning and sniffing ivanka’s underwear.”

Probably why Twitter shouldn't be an official communication channel of the president.

Come on, tell me this is fake.

I'd say he can't possibly be this dumb, but... Yeah... He is...

But tell me not everyone in charge of national security is this dumb.

From the get-go I just assumed that logins would only be allowed from pre approved hardware.

This. If true he wouldn't even qualify for an assistant manager at Kinko's. Frankly I don't expect Trump to personally handle even remotely sophisticated passwords or hardware, but certainly the White House has some sort of personal IT guy at his beak and call? Surely they have some kind of idiot proof system for powerful people like this. After all, politicians of his generation are pretty notorious for being tech dinosaurs. John McCain, who spent hours every day on the phone, is reputed to have never given up his flip phone for example.
