Opinion:
Under the new CBO report, if the law passes today, 15 million Americans, mostly poort and the old, will loose health care within 12month. 22 million in 10 years time. Also out of pocket expenses are expected to rise sharply for those with insurance. If Republicans who control all branches of government want to replace Obamacare with something better, does this healthcare bill looks like an improvement?

Why would they draft a bill in something as important as healthcare behind closed doors with no hearing nor input from experts or patients who will be affected by this? Why give just 7 days before a vote? Why rush on something that will profoundly affect millions of Americans?

Why not go back to the drawing board to come up with a version of the bill that's an improvement to Obamacare before considering replacing that? Doesn't the government owe us a bit of patience and diligence before passing a law that will affect so many people?

CBO is a partisan left wing liberal part of the deep state determined to undermine real Americans and Donald Trump. There should be a through house cleaning and all the commie infiltrators replaced!

Or the bill is just that shitty.

Its a tax cut bill disguised as healthcare. Republicans don't really care about healthcare. They made a dumbed down promise to repeal Obamacare and the rubes fell for it. Republicans had no interest in healthcare until Obama got into office.

Their only goal in life is to undo everything Obama accomplished.

Medicaid is going to get wacked as well.

As many in the middle class fall into poverty, and the old are living longer we are going to have one big mess in the near future. Let's not forget that many people have diabetes and they don't take care of themselves. Look around you. That cute chubby kid, teen or young adult is going to be a middle aged adult with a host of health issues. Who is going to pay for their prescriptions and multiple visits to the doctor.

Oh, I guess we will get the money from the money tree. lol

Has the GOP always been like this? I am young and ignorant so I don't know where in the spectrum of history this falls in terms of how greedy and incompetent a US party can be (and still be re-elected each time). Can anyone enlighten me how this compares to other times in the last 50 years? 100 years? Thanks.

They have moved hugely to the right since the mid 1970s. The modern Republican Party bears almost no resemblance from the one of the mid 20th century.

As bad as the report is it still doesn't tell the whole story. The GOP intentionally back loaded the majority of cuts to medicare to be outside the 10 year window the CBO evaluates for. The whole thing is just one big shit sandwich.

I haven't read the CBO report. Do they discuss how badly this bill would send the budget out of wack? The bill cuts the income stream immediately (in fact retroactively to Jan. 1st) but the expenses to the government continue for years. Not very fiscally prudent-unless the next move a few years down the road is to implement medicaid cuts immediately because of the "crisis" created by this bill. The GOP certainly won't raise taxes to pay for their actions.

Hope all those Trump voters are ready to take care of their parents themselves. Medicaid cuts will make nursing homes impossible to afford. Good thing they're used to eating shit from Trump. Now they'll be wiping it off their elderly relatives several times a day.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/27/business/economy/health-care-senate-mortality.html

In 2015, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the United States government spent 8.4 percent of its gross domestic product to pay for health care for about half of all Americans, including Medicare, Medicaid and subsidies under the Affordable Care Act. That year, Britain spent 7.7 percent to cover virtually all of its citizens. Finland, Canada and Italy spent even less.

I understand, senators, that these places have what is known as single-payer systems — which tend to stick in the craws of some of you. But think about it. If your primary motivation to repeal the Affordable Care Act is to provide a large tax cut for high-income Americans, think what you could do with a full percentage point of G.D.P. It could even be worth the effort to provide health care for all.

It's a good point. Why don't they do that? Could it be due to how lucrative the insurance lobby is on an individual representative basis?

Also, i find it amazing that at the time, obamacare received fantastic support but now that a republican is in the White House all of a sudden it sucks.

In essence, what the Repubs are actually trying to do is to create an illusion, to create the mere appearance of giving the nation a replacement for the ACA while in fact all they're doing is turning the clock back to the ways things were before the ACA was ever enacted.

The repeal is real. The replacement is nothing but smoke and mirrors, and that's something the Repubs are so practiced and adept with from persistently attempting to dismantle the foundations of the gov't for, of and by the people and replacing it with this weird marriage between a theocratic (in order to pacify the masses) and oligarchic form of gov't (in order to give the aristocrat class the power of complete governance over said masses).

minority rule only happens through deceit and flirting constitutional law. They elected themselves through unscrupulous means, because the GOP knows that they do not have the will of the people, but to maintain power and keep the $$$$$ flowing into their families' pockets long after they are dead, they must pass destructive legislation that robs the wealth from their supporters and funnels it to the increasingly tiny number of wealthy people in this country, they must legislate in secret.

And it's profoundly telling that they can so openly hide their activities without their supporters giving a shit. The alarming success of campaigning against the evil black president. "Do whatever you need, as long as blacky is erased from history!" Despicable lot of sycophants, all of these America-hating sons of bitches.

My SO is on Medicaid, so this directly affects my family. Go fuck yourself, Donald Trump.

Wear your balls on the outside, how about you pick on a bigger target, like Medicare? Afraid you can't get something to pass if it actually affects enough people with a voice? Fucking coward.

Using Obama as the scapegoat is just their latest tactic, before that it was demonizing liberals for decades. It really doesn't matter who is in power on the Democrat side, they'll rally the troops against them to continue to push their agenda which is a country with no taxes. Collective action issues are only supported if it involves the military.

Curious, what Healthcare industry companies donated the most to the republican party in the last election?
