Why I think the tariffs, and possible global trade wars, are a bad idea.
Let me start by saying I like Trump. I think he has good ideas with DOGE and strengthening the border.
But widespread tariffs on most goods are a really bad idea, and here's why:
There are 2 natural resources that Canada has, and the US desperately needs.
1. Potash You need this stuff to grow crops. You cant do without it.
Canada is the largest potash producer by far, followed by Russia, China and Belarus.
Russia/Belarus arent going to sell it to you, because they need it for themselves.
China wont sell it you either unless you pay heavy tariffs on it. And even then they might still keep it to themselves.
So where will you get the fertilizer from to grow your crops??

2. Uranium The USA has very little uranium. They barely have enough for their nuke plants, let alone their nuclear weapons.
They import most of it from Canada. The other large producing uranium countries are Kazakhstan, Australia and Namibia.
Kazakhs are not going to sell it to you. They are a Russian ally. Australia and Namibia have relatively small amounts.
So if Canada cuts you off from uranium, how long do you think you would be a superpower without your nukes??
Nuclear weapons need to be refurbished every 5-10 years with fresh weapons grade uranium, or they wont work anymore.
So then what?? Also your nuclear plants will stop working as well.

So in the end, whats the point of tariffs if all we end up doing is hurting all countries involved, which is Canada, EU, China, Mexico and America itself??
We already have a trump tariff thread.
