Why is it called trunk or treat? Regular trick or treating isnt called 'front door or treat'.

Ten years ago you saw kids trick or treating all over the neighborhoods. Now, you don't see a single kid. I've talked to people in other neighborhoods too. No kids. Its weird.

wtf? It's not even any more dangerous nowadays than it was decades ago - just more fear mongering. My parents let my brothers and I trick or treat on our own when we were 13 or so - nothing bad happened.

they decorate the trunk of cars with halloweenie stuff, like punkins and witch brooms and spider webs and dead bodies, etc etc

the trunks are open and the peoples sit next to the decorated trunk and give out candies

it is just a play on words, rhymes with trick or treat, sorta

Back then we had to check candy, but needles, poisons etc was more or less an urban legend. It never really happened, but it was just something to check for "just in case". But with the way this world has gone crazy it probably happens regularly now. :/

I still say it's safe, just have to be very careful and inspect each individual candy before consuming. Anything suspicious is to be thrown out.

No, no, no. This is still a bunch of urban legend BS. Halloween poisonings never happened, and pins/razors are extremely rare and have never even caused a death. This "world has gone crazy" and "crime is rising" media hype garbage needs to stop.

I should mention, there is a really rich neighborhood around here (very high number of Porsche Boxsters) and they are just handing out money now. Almost all parents take their kids down there and share the cash, so each year I am left with more and more candy.

I'm not sure how this is any different from what secular parents do. They don't have their kids out trick-or-treating.......they take their kids to their church....the shopping mall.

As for why, well there's one good reason. It's damn cold by October 31st, so you aren't going to be taking your 2 year old out for a mile and half walk in the cold with just a thin layer of acrylic to keep them warm. So your options are to have them stay home or take them some place indoors like the mall or to an abbreviated outdoor event.

Which brings us to the real reason. It's just young kids who trick-or-treat any more. It's 1) not cool and 2) not as fun as playing Xbox Live.

So to recap. Older kids who are the age demographic for trick-or-treating in the streets are less inclined to indulge themselves of this behavior. The availability of church parking lots and malls has given younger kids the opportunity to trick-or-treat before they turn into lazy, jaded little shits.

The candy doesn't taste good unless FEAR WAS INVOLVED IN ACQUIRING IT. Now you'll walk through that unlit front yard and get candy from the corpse husk.

one theory: the people that set this up are pedos. they are trying to get kids used to getting free candy out of stranger's trunks.

'trunk or treat' is idiocy. if they're not even going house to house just take them to those candy bins in the supermarket.

Actually, I believe this message needs to be spread, for the sake of the children. Time to creat doubt in everyone's mind about the people promoting such crap & ruining one of those favorite traditions. It wasn't just about getting candy the easy way - it was about seeing who could get to the most houses, and the best houses. It taught kids essential skills - "don't go down that block, only 3 lights are on" can easily be applied to situations where the costs (time) exceeds the rewards. But, of course, the smartest kids learned this lesson: go down that block when there are only a few minutes left of trick-or-treating. Those people will have so much candy that they'll give you a ton!

So, let's spread the doubt & cast suspicions on anyone promoting this church parking lot crap. Pedophiles! They're trying to get our kids acclimated to getting candy from them by their car!

13??! You finally got to go out on your own without parental supervision when you were a... teenager?!! lmao! I think the average age of trick or treaters in my area is somewhere around 8 or 9 years old, and the vast majority of kids beyond 1st or 2nd grade are out in groups with their friends. Heck, I wouldn't even let our kids go once they hit about 14.

In western NY, it's not uncommon for costumes to be designed to be worn over a winter jacket. And, by the time they're about 5, that mile and a half walk has increased to about a 4 mile walk.
