I did this a couple a months ago...it's not Audiogalaxy or Napster or Gnutella or anything like that, it's more of a place where you go and buy and download MP3s. It's pretty fast download and also no cut-off songs or scratchy recordings. Don't have any major labels tho.

I got two months free with my ($25 after PM &amp; MIR) 10X HP 9350i a few months ago.

I LOVED the service. You can download an entire album with a single click. And set up queues of multiple albums for unattended download.

It is PERFECT for dial-up. In 30 days I downloaded over 100 albums (the first month, I just fooled around with it). (It took all weekend to burn these MP3s to CD.)

Just remember, they don't have EVERYTHING. Certainly not the latest albums. And you are limited to 128kps - nothing higher (or lower). Tons of punk and oldies. Good selection of &quot;techno&quot; and reggae. Some great compilation albums also.

But, I would try it. 100 tracks is only about 6 or 7 albums.

I think it's worth the $19.95 for a month (for 100 albums). After year or so, I might actually buy a month's service. I'd like to see what's new then.

The keyword with this service is CONVENIENCE. And artists are getting PAID for their works.

Yes, The_Dude, emusic was the place many of us were able to get Nomad II's from for $50.

I still have mine, and I actually like the $50 worth of music I downloaded to get it.

I just subscribed to it yesterday. Be warned, the reason why they phrase the terms that way is that once you pick a payment plan you're obligated to finish it.

So, if you subscribe for $14.95 for 3 months, $45 is all you're obligated for. If you decide to go for the $10/12mos plan, that's $120 no matter what, essentially you can't cancel. I think I'm going to go for the 3mos deal. I have cable, and since it's unlimited downloads in 3mos I should be able to d/l all I want.

I notice when I rip cd's 160 bits sounds much better than 128. Maybe it's just me But file are bigger so less compression right?

Or download as much as you can in 30 days and cancel and pay nothing. Just reached my 100 limit and have a confirmed cancellation.

actually, there was a test about this, a &quot;blind-folded&quot; test. I wish i would still have the website to show you but i lost it. They were using like $10,000 headphones and like all this stuff and like 93% or something said that 128 sounded the best, and like 256 (one of the highest usually found on normal places like limewire, gnutella, etc) got like the worst ratings. So, don't always go by what seems logical. Also, I would like to add that limewire is completely free (download at download.com) forever and it has EVERYTHING, after just a few moments when you're connected you have about 100 TB at your fingertips! It's pretty good, just the d/l speeds are what kills you.

Based on our listening tests, we found that a 128-Kbps MP3 clip (sampled at 44.1 kHz) is almost impossible to distinguish from the music on CD. This is the bit rate you should use for classical music. If you prefer pop or contemporary vocals without high-pitched instruments, then the 64-Kbps encoding (typically sampled at 22.05 kHz) is likely to be just as good at preserving the dynamic range. And the lower bit rate produces files that are half the size.

Make absolutely sure you know what you are getting into.

You ARE committing to $45 over 3 months after the first 100 tracks (5-8 albums).

Use SEARCH a lot to see if the independent labels they offer are worth it.

I was able to download 100 albums in ONE month over 56K dialup. Beleive me, I wouldn't know what to do with the other two months (remember I got a FREE 2 month's subscription).

If you like the artists (and can use 100-300 ablums or more) it is a very good deal.

Napster maybe over, but there are other &quot;channels&quot; to get music. I dont' think this service'll last long.

192k does make a difference in base btw...really, u should crank it up and listen.

It's been around for quite awhile.

128kbps is sufficient for most MP3 non-critical listening (car, mp3 walkman, etc.).

For true audiophiles, CDs suck (let alone MP3s at ANY sampling rate) - only LPs convey accurate music reproduction.

This service is about CONVENIENCE. You click on &quot;download entire album&quot;, set up multiple album queues (in less than a minute) and wake up the next morning to find 2-4 complete albums (on 56K) downloaded. If your ISP cuts off or there is a problem, &quot;resume&quot; takes care of it.

True, they don't have everything, but if you like Blues and Jazz (especially Blues) they have a whole lot of stuff.

Emusic now owns the rights to Stax/Fantasy, Cobra/Paula, Black Top, Specialty, and some other not so well known Blues labels. So if you like Blues, this is well worth the $45. They just put up the Stax/Volt Singles Vol2 Boxed Set (9 CDs), so for this alone it's worth it.
