Trying some nVidia

Okay. while the Pentium stuff is not strictly video.

I want to get an nVidia setup, somewhat around the similar spec as my present one, without the option to go SLI, because I never will in this generation.

It doesn't have to be ungodly killer graphics, so anything from the 6800 range I assume? I'm looking at you NV users to guide me here.

Any mild pointers at pentium mobos with PCI-E would be sweet too.

Bear in mind that this is new water to me, I haven't used pentium s since P1/2, and I've not used nVidia.. well. Ever.

If you're looking into PCI-E, I'd look into the 6800gs.

If it's AGP...well, I'd look into the 6800gs.

Very soon, you're probably going to have about 1000 people screaming at you to get AMD instead.

Anyway, a 6800GS would probably be a good choice, they can be had for ~$200.

Hahah, I have no doubt that someone'll say 'wtfwhy' with a tad better wording before this is out.

Hm. The 6800GS doesn't look too pricey, about £150 from my local.

Not switching as such, more testing out the other side. I mean. At present I have ATi/AMD, and I love my setup to bits and back. Just figured there's no harm in checking out the other side of things. I'd like a second machine anyhow, and it's a much easier way to give some base comparisons than never having used nVidia. Although, the comparisons would only serve to satisfy my curiosity.

is that ur system in ur specs? then upgrading to pentium wouldn't help for crap, and 6800 either, unless its 7800

so basically you are trying to get the same setup, but just different brands? thats really stupid, its just the same system! there is no difference between comparable products from the 2 companies, except little things that you wont notice.

I wouldn;t call it an upgrade. Just another machine to play with, and I'd like some experiance with nVidia and Pentium, even if they're not the absolute latest.

It's more an experiance quest, to be honest. I know that there is little point in building it to similar specs as my present system, but it's really to keep my expectations the same, and my spending lower.

Besides which, I'd like a portable lan gaming machine, and before you say it, the Lan stuff I go to is not for high end machines, a lot older games (Unreal, the original, for example) and low power stratagy games, like Stronghold.
