paypal, check, money order, local computer stores, etc. We've told you how to buy a new computer w/o a Platinum Amex CC, wtf is the problem? Some have even told you exactly how to "break" your computer, why haven't you said "thanks" to them and "thread closed, will update when new computer parts arrive"...? Where's the hangup????

Honestly... I agree with half the people that breaking a computer is a stupid thing to do..

But one guy suggested some prank virus, I like that idea better...
Where are the good ones at?

Don't real stores cost way more then newegg?

Just tell your parents why you need a new computer make a list of reasons and show them what happens and what it's supposed to be like talk them into it tell them you want one really bad blah blah blah

Instead of trying to brake your computer which IMO is stupid and dishonest

hm...

1. Don't break your computer
2. Invest your life "savings" into at the very least a CD(since you're so young) Maybe try a money market
3. Buy the new snazzy computer when you A)do great in school B) you graduate college
4. Enjoy the interest gained when you realize you now have more money
5...Profit?

You'll thank me later...

? Newegg Preferred Account
? Bill Me Later
? PayPal

? Pre-paid Company Check, Personal Check, Cashier's Check or Money Order (Note: All Prepaid Orders, including Cashier's Checks, take longer to process because they must first be cleared with the bank)

If you give your computer a virus, they will spend $80 buying the worst anti-virus software ever written-- Norton. That won't work at all. Start telling them that it's been acting funny. Then tell them you've found an extremely reliable site, that sells computers for really good prices: newegg. If they don't bite, then go buy two, three, or four $300 money orders, depending on how much you have (it's went from $500-1,200 extremely quickly, I've noticed).

At first, I was gonna railgun your ass. Then I had (another) beer, and I realize where you're going with this.

First, you don't give any specs other than a 5200 and a half gig of RAM. For most games, your half-gig should be enough (not great, but enough). And most gaming relies on the videocard itself.

Assuming you have a half-way decent proc...

You need a different approach.

Show your folks what last year's specs for gaming is. Then demonstrate how bad gaming is on your system. Then show them prices on a cheap vanilla 6800.

You're shooting for the moon. I suggest you shoot for low-orbit.

Your folks want you to save for something that will appreciate in value, such as a CD for college. A computer (or parts) will only depreciate in value. Learn their lesson well.

And if your folks even suspect that you're trying to sabotage the machine, you can kiss any leverage you have good-bye.

Start small. You'll have your uber machine after you graduate college and get a fine-ass job.

You know what, assuming that machine has a decent processor, get some fast RAM: link and one of these video cards: X800 GTO or if you don't have that much money, get the card that I have:X1600 Pro. That card handles BF2 very, very well, and does this with F.E.A.R.: @1024x768 or @1152x864. And that's running 2x AA & 2 or 4x AF.

Completely rewriting an original post so that the story is totally changed ought to be disabled somehow, maybe make it so only a certain percentage can be changed, anything else has to just be added on.

I think after a bit, many of us did understand the situation, that you have enough money to buy the machine, but you think you need your father to actually make the purchase for you. As has been pointed out, you don't actually need him to make the purchase on newegg. However even if you did, it is STILL dishonest and shows a total lack of good character to think that the solution is to damage, even temporarily, your family's computer, which YOU didn't have to earn and yet have had the luxury of using all these years, which your parents will then either need to pay to repair or replace (you haven't mentioned whether you're the only one who uses this computer).

No matter what the situation, it comes down to you being a whiny brat who thinks that anything is okay as long as you get what you want. Now that people have suggested temporary options to hurt the old PC, you say that'd be a good idea and want to look into it, but you still make it clear that you think if that doesn't work out you'll still try to physically damage it.

Your father is in the right here, it is HIS credit card, and even if it seems unreasonable, you live in his house and a new computer is a luxury that you don't have a natural born human right to. You are simply totally in the wrong in your basic proposition of how to resolve your situation. One must pity anybody who gets in your way in the future, since by then you may have actually gotten some power or money that makes it possible to get anything you want; maybe you'll make a good politician. Scratch that, you don't know how to keep what you're doing hidden, and you haven't got any ability to spin things to put them in a good light.

Ignore those flame posts, theyre just ignorant pieces of trash.

What you wanna do is remove a component, somthing like the graphics card, the RAM, the hard drive would be excellent as it would still show somthing on the screen then but it simply wouldnt boot into windows. As theres no drive

What you have to think about is what happens if your parents call in a tech to come fix it... you're screwed then as he will find theres no drive and well... probably wont believe you when you say the underpants gnomes took it or w/e. Hell even if you take a component and completely mess it up, the tech will be able to sort it and voila, your back with your old comp. Same would be true for a software problem i.e. a virus etc.

You need to figure out somthing to tell them that will make them not call out a technician or send it away for repair.

Heh, when I was your age I saved up 400 dollars for a Tandy 1000

I think the real absurdity of this thread and the OP is that it is so easy to break a computer... How in the heck are you gonna build a pc if you don't even know how to break one?

I'm not much older than you dude and I got a summer job, worked my a$$ off all summer, then I built the computer myself. If I tried what you are attempting to do my Dad probobly would not buy me a pc. Don't break your computer, that's a very immature thing to do.

Actually, it really does not matter what his original post was or what it was changed to. The fact remains he's looking for help destroying property that doesn't belong to him, or at the least lying to his family in order to get what he wants, just because he thinks he deserves better, and is pissed that his father won't give him permission or allow him to make use of his father's credit card. Just because it's his money doesn't mean his parents have to allow him to spend it, and it doesn't mean they have to put their own credit card to use for it.

The original post didn't mention that he had a job or had any money. (Why the new post mentions that he volunteers at a hospital is a mystery; just because you volunteer your time doesn't mean you're entitled to a better PC.) He didn't mention that the current computer overheats (which may be fixed simply by cleaning it out or perhaps replacing the CPU thermal compound, and if not, then that should be included in his arguments to convince his father that it is in fact failing).

The fact remains, unreasonable or not, it's his father's decision, and if a rational argument beyond <whine>but I wanna play gaaaaaames</whine> doesn't convince him, then the right thing to do is give it up for a time, keep saving money, look at alternatives, and try to find other arguments that might change his father's mind. Not damage or disable his father's hard-earned property just because the son doesn't appreciate what he has.

I mean, im 13 and im sick of my using my 2ghz p4 integrated graphics gateway notebook to game.
Ive been saving for 4 months, $600 so far. Birthday is in a couple of months, and im set.

I'm 14, and I'm sick of using my 2.8GHz Opty 144 and 7800GT. I've been saving up for 2 months, $300 so far. By the time vista rolls around I'll have about $1300, enough to ditch all this crashy windows crap and switch to mac.

A Mac that has no games...that is why I switched from Mac to PC. I wanted to play games. Plus anything I can do on a mac I can do on a PC for less money (usually faster contrary to what Apple's skewed benchmarks tell you).

How about this... Explain to your parents that since they won't let you spend your own money to buy a new computer, you instead want to upgrade their computer. Just drop $150 or so to replace the Video card and you will be playing BF2 on better settings just fine.

You don't break their computer, you don't spend all your money on a new computer, you get to play BF2 and all involved should be happy.

Best idea yet. Heck, if you're determined to do something behind their backs, this at least isn't horrendously bad mannered even if you do it without telling them. You can occasionally find a decent deal on a video card at a local shop, or even a chain retailer after rebates.

buahaha, soon as I saw that this kid wanted to break his computer, I knew that with out a doubt, the forum goers would rape this guy.. How sad. They should have politely told him it's not nice to steal.
