Trying to decide on an replacement card for my GTX 275

I've been running my GTX 275 for 2 1/2 years and it has served it's hold me over purpose better than expected time for an upgrade.

with BF3 due in a couple of months me thinks I should go for the 570, what say you?

Since he has an Nvidia card now, and is only looking at Nvidia cards when considering a new one, I think it's pretty safe to say he's in the Nvidia camp.

the two selected cards qualify for the eVGA step up program which will allow me the option to upgrade to another card within 90 days of purchase but it appears that AMD will be the only 28nm card in the fourth quarter so that point does me no good. The new card will be a hold me over card before I can purchase the next gen high end when the stock is adequate.

The HD series from EVGA have a different design than the reference GTX570, it seems to me that the fan dumps hot air in the case and the fan is a bit louder, you have to check on that. Otherwise, I went from a GTX275 EVGA the FTW edition to EVGA 570 SC and it's about twice as fast so I think it's the best choice. You can further overclock the SC to get close to a 580 stock.

you don't have to wait for the AMD 7xxx series, the waiting game will not be over, it would just play you over and over again until your hair grows white...

I suggest canvas first, look for good deals, better warranties and great quality cards... by the way, how much is your budget? is sky's the limit? lol

Get the cheapest gtx570 you can get if its just a holdover card.
OR pay 10$ more and get this overclocking monster. Almost garaunteed to overclock to gtx580 performance.

nice looking card from ASUS, a guy I work with has this card and he is very happy with it. Thought the warranty would be better than three years on this card. Decisions Decisions. I have a LAN Party on the 20th of this month so I will decide within the next week thanks for your guidance and suggestions. Still leaning toward the EVGA SC card with the Lifetime warranty tipping the scales.

gtx 560 ti is probably the best bang for buck in nvidia's stable right now. You'll get plenty of life out of it even at higher res, too, b/c most of them OC to gtx 570 + levels.

edit: check in hot deals forum, I saw a thread the other day with ~ $185 AR gtx 560 ti, that's a huge savings from any of those 570's for just a minimal performance penalty.

when it comes to GTX570, do not get a reference design card unless your not going to be pushing overclocks on, even the HD series from evga. The GTX570 suffer from inadequate amount of VRMs to power the 570 when overclocking heavily(with overvolting) If you do plan to overvolt and all that get a Asus DirectCU II, Twinfrozr III PE/OC edition from MSI or i think the Gigiabyte SoC variants have more power phases and better VRMs. Or you can get the Evga GTX570 Classified

And everytime i see someone say they are getting the evga card because of the lifetime warrenty, i automatically cringe. You will not have that card for your entire life, better yet more then 2 or 3 years so really lifetime warrenty is marketting. Should not be a reason to get a card over another superior card like the Asus DirectCUII

good point on the Lifetime warranty, I should have just said that Evga was a great company to deal with (minor issues) although none of my previous cards I purchased from them have failed. I still own and use them. I am generally ok with the factory OC of the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...VGA-_-14130595 (GTX 570 SC) and have not overclocked any of my cards as their was no need to. I'm thinking with the size of the ASUS DirectCUII 570 and a faint possibility of grabbing another 570 SC to SLI it rules that card out.

gtx 570 has severe overclocking issues. Not as much as gtx 590, but it is nothing at all like the overclocking beast that gtx 560 ti is. Do some digging on this issue if you don't believe me.

With most manufacturers that is true, but this site is littered with user comments about 4-5 year old modded/overclocked/etc cards that EVGA replaced with no complaints at all. A more common issue with EVGA these days is that you have to make sure that you get the AR (lifetime warranty) instead of KR (3 years) where possible. It's typically $10-15 to upgrade a KR to AR on EVGA's website when you register btw.

yeah I know to buy the AR cards from EVGA my only issue with them is that they have limited the different models that are eligible for the step up program which has always been a bonus that why the thread started out with the initial 2 cards listed as they qualify and they one I will probably purchase does not :-(
