Trying to find a new Electric Guitar

I wasn't planning on getting a high quality expensive amp, that price range wasn't for both. I have an old Fender one that came in a gig bag but it is pretty shit.

So first off, answer this, how good is that Roland Micro Cube? Any other small amps maybe a bit more expensive with a lot more punch/quality/worth? I'm mainly going to be playing in my home (having to worry about 3 other people so it can't be huge) or jamming with friends (still don't need anything stage worthy, just goofing off.)

I'm not looking for something I can bring to a stage for a performance, just something I can set up at home in my room or maybe outside with friends when I want to

Cube sounds like a winner for that, plus it has built in Boss effects already so its two birds w/ one stone. It's not a fantastic amp by any means but it'll probably be better than the one you have.

I believe their Tribute line has all the same quality parts as their American Made line, except that all the parts are shipped to Korea for production.

I have a G&L Legacy HB that I love.

I also own a Cube 30 for practice. Both quality products.

If you want to do a little of everything, maybe a nice Mexican made Telecaster or Strat. They really upped the build quality on those recently, so they're cheap, easy players.

Yep, for sheer versatility across music genres and ease of play this is my advice also, especially the strat. Strats have been players favs for 50 years for a reason, the tonal range/versatility and mod ability is unmatched by any other quitar period.

I have an Epiphone SG that cost $300. It is now my stay at home practice guitar, but for the price it is quite good. Buying guitars is nice, because you can get one that's decent for a reasonable price. I would go to a store and try out as many as possible in your price range.

The new Digitech RP line is excellent. I have the RP500, and have had it for about a year, and it is by far the best muliteffects unit I've ever used. The 500 would blow half of your budget, but look into the cheaper units. They usually don't have as many options or sounds, but what they do have should sound pretty much the same as mine.

I'm /almost/ with you. What I'd be interested in is Tele guts in a Strat body. Basically keep the Strat shape, but make the rest Tele. That way you'd have the exquisite comfort of the Strat, and the sweet sound of the Tele.

For that price, do not look to hard because you will not have much. Under $500....you will not get a spectacular guitar unless you find an idiot who do not know his guitar is worth double.

I started out with a pos epiphone SG. It has served me well for years. I have upgraded the pick ups, but it's still a pos epiphone SG. I still play it, but I will never make a claim that it is as good as the real thing.

I get that, just never found a Strat I could bond with. I ended up with a Jazzmaster to complement my Tele and couldn't be happier.

Yeah, I'm partial to them too. I have active pickups on mine and it's an awesome rocker. They're making a comeback on the punk music scene for some reason too.

well first of all, let me just say that I bought this guitar mainly for the nicely worn neck to put on one of my squier bullets. Upon receiving the package the guitar smelled funny. I did not appreciate this. After I had taken the neck, which sounds very nice on my red bullet, I used the body as a coffee table. It is very cool, retro looking. Overall, doesn't buy this guitar.

my 52 is the exact opposite. You can see lots of grain. I still love it though. Where did you get yours? It's amazing how much the guitar appreciated in value. 10 years ago it was $900....now you can sell it used for $1400.

I got both of mine from Bills Music House in Catonsville MD back in 87 for the Strat, and 88 for the Tele if I remember right. I think I paid ~$850 each for them.

I'd highly recommend a Mexican Stratocaster at the sub $500 price point. Great value, and very well built guitars. I've paid twice as much for guitars from other companies that turned out to be twice as shitty once I got good enough to tell the difference. They vary a bit from guitar to guitar, so it pays to play more than one. But there are some gems out there.
