That depends on the game you're playing, but for the most-part, you're right. It's extremely easy to tell while playing FPS team games when someone is using a controller, but I've seen people use controllers on Dungeon Defenders and they were able to keep up with us just fine.
I guess I'm just one of those people who cannot play video games laying down since it gives me a headache. With that in mind, I splurged and bought a really nice office chair that was on clearance because of some minor delivery damage (one of the arms is scuffed) and got it for %80 off. I think I paid around $150 for the chair and I haven't ever had any issues. Even my old Wal-Mart brand leather office chair I bought ten years ago for $50 still feels great when I play my consoles.
