trying to go console gaming instead of PC

So on May 14 2017 i bought a PS4 Pro. Big reason was to play The Last of Us Remastered again and the Uncharted series. But i am going to try to see if i can go full on console and live without PC gaming.

I do have a somewhat decent gaming rig. Intel I7-4790k, Geforce Gtx1080. 16g ram. but since i got the ps4 i have not turned the game pc on. Well once as last week i got a new 4k LG43in tv to use as game monitor. The PS4 would not display an image. Wanted to see if it was the tv so i started the pc and it worked. After a search i got the ps4 working by booting into safemode.

part of the reasons are the ps4 plays decent enough. Many games on PC are console ports anyway. I do not play mmog anymore. I hate windows 10. So i guess time will tell. If i can go a month or so without missing pc gaming i will wipe the game pc and install a flavour of Linux.

anyone else move to console from pc gaming? I am also thinking about getting a Nintendo Switch.

Nah I kind of do both but I haven't spent much money on PC components lately. All the new CPUs are faster and all but I'm not rendering, folding, running seti@home, doing video editing etc where the real benefits of new CPUs can be found. I'm still rockin SLI 970s which I must admit feel like they are aging in some titles. There just hasn't been a game that makes me say "I need the proper PC to play this one". That's saying a lot considering my PC is 5 years old and my GPUs are going on 3 years old.

Anyway to draw it back to console, sometimes there are games that just don't appear on PC. Persona 5, Zelda Breath of the WIld, Yakuza 0, Horizon Zero Dawn etc. and I really like some of them. I will be building a new PC or at the very least upgrading memory and GPU I believe this year but I'm not super excited for any one title to use that upgrade on. However, for PS4 and Switch there are a few titles coming that I'm looking forward to like Mario and Days Gone, God of War, Death Stranding to name a few.

I'm still running a 2500k and a 290x and everything (even VR) runs fine. I did buy a new monitor, but I can use that for everything. I'm pretty much over consoles for now.

Thing is you CAN go a month or so w/o one or the other. I do it all the time for years. You get burned out on one sort of thing and do the other, and vice versa. You have a system that will still be just fine for gaming the next few years at least so I don't see an issue.

I moved to consoles in 2006 with the XBox 360 since my top of the line PC I built in 2002 was a dog by late 2004. But then I moved back to PC in 2014 and didn't play consoles again until getting my PS4 last December. And I barely played my PC for months after getting my PS4, but that was mostly because I could now play a big backlog of games I really wanted to play but couldn't back when I only had PC and XBox 360. I still bought the three Dark Souls games a couple of months ago on PC instead of my PS4 and PS3 though (I bought a PS3 in January for all the exclusives I missed from 2006-2013). I still strongly prefer PC if I have a choice, as 60 fps seems night and day better to me than 30 fps does. But I'll still play a great game at 30 fps over a good game at 60 fps any day, so I do buy the great exclusives (of which PS4 has tons of in 2017 and 2018).

I used to have a n64 console because it had better visuals than a pc from a similar price.
But eventually i went to the pc to game.
Unfortunately, pc gaming can be a challence sometimes.
Something that did not happen at the consoles.
But since now consoles are like pc, consoles have similar problems as pc gaming can have.
This is kind of annoying.
prey on a ps4 pro, 1 minute loading times, stuttering and frame tearing.

Why not play both? I have multiple consoles and three gaming rigs too. Of course the other two PC game rigs are mainly used by my daughter and rarely my wife.

I enjoy all forms of in home game systems.

I consider myself both, but my PC is over 15 years old, I've been putting off buying parts to build a new one for about 13 years how. I kept on buying PC games even though my computer couldn't run them, and I have even re-bought many of those games for console.

Same here, except not quite as long. I don't play many games as it is, and when I do it's just on my playstation. I sat down to play a PC game the other day and realized it just doesn't feel right anymore. I don't know if I'm too close to my monitor or what, but it seems like even at max settings things looked worse than I was used to on the PS4. Granted I only tried Mad Max and Bioshock Infinite, but I remember both of those games looking better last time I played them.

I have a gaming PC, PS3 and X360. I'd have an X1 and PS4 if there were enough exclusives that I wanted to play but they aren't there yet for me.

I prefer the PC: KB + mouse, (non-crippled) mods for games like Skyrim and Fallout, games that might not make it to console. AAA games might be console first, but not the indies.

There have been a lot of remakes and such on the new consoles. Unfortunate...

I have all the consoles leading up to the PS3 era and my current gaming PC below, but I spend most my time on my PC. Steam alone has hundreds of thousands of games and most are extremely cheap. From the last three major Steam sales, I've made enough money from selling the trading cards that I was able to purchase about 15 games that were 75% off or more just from what I made selling the cards. I even bought Terraria for all the people in my friend's list who had it in their wishlist because it was $0.75 during one of the weekends.

For me, I just can't justify spending $500+ on new consoles when their game libraries consist of maybe 10 exclusives and countless remasters and ports. There's no reason for me to spend that much money on something just to play a handful of games - of which those games will likely cost $60. Hell, I can't even remember the last time I paid more than $30 for brand new titles for the PC. I remember getting Dying Light and the expansion for $13 when the expansion was first released and that game is still listed at Wal-Mart for PS4 at $40.

You're overestimating the price of consoles and games for them. I bought my PS4 from newegg for $230 and Sony gave me a $10 PS Store credit. Here is a list of how much I paid for each game I have on my PS4 and where I bought from, all new (no used, no open box):

Horizon Zero Dawn: $48 (newegg)
Nioh: $36 (newegg)
Bloodborne: $18 (Wal-Mart)
Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection: $16 (Wal-Mart)
God of War 3: $14 (Wal-Mart)
The Last of Us: $10 (Gamestop)
Ratchet & Clank: $10 (Gamestop)
Flower: $6 (PS Store)
Journey: $5 (PS Store)
Unravel: $5 (PS Store)
The Unfinished Swan: $2 (PS Store)
Flow: $1 (PS Store)
Uncharted 4: $0 (came with system)

And I only paid that for Horizon Zero Dawn because I badly wanted to play it the week it came out (I actually bought it a few days before launch but newegg is really slow delivering games and they wouldn't ship it until launch date).

honestly, you're going to like it. The only thing you might not like is playing shooters, particularly fps. and since fps consume a huge share of gaming industry, you can say you may or may not find it frustrating aiming with controller's stick than mouse where your hand controls the precision and sensitivity

I moved from primarily PC gaming to almost exclusively console gaming five years ago and haven't looked back. It's so much more comfortable to be able to recline in front of a huge screen and play games instead of sitting close to a computer monitor. Plus it's easier to play with friends since more people are more likely to play games on console and not PC. Sure I miss having bleeding edge graphics and playing fps with a kb/m but it's just so much easier to just game on a console and relax.

And even though console games sometime have glitches, I don't have to worry about driver issues or hunting down why a game won't run or is a horrible port anymore.

You do still have to deal with horrible ports on console though. Eg Prey on PS4, Fallout 4 on XBox One, Bayonetta on PS3, and so on. Bad ports seem like a reality no matter what you game on.

And if there's a bug or glitch on a console game, you can be guaranteed there's a workaround on the PC or someone is making an unofficial patch to fix the issue. Then you have the amount of mods available on PC games, even for ones you wouldn't normally think supported mods (Witcher 3 for example).

There is still some poor performance on consoles but generally speaking you're right. One thing I thought about is the new Destiny 2. It's going to release on PC but I fear the PC userbase will be so small in the long term that it will be very difficult to get things done unless you find a dedicated team. People also said in another thread that they tried playing Battlefield 1 on PC and the community seemed pretty small while a good friend of mine says PS4 still has a pretty large community.

Bad ports happen of course but PC notoriously gets HORRIBLE ports of games, if you the games gets released on PC at all. I'm older and have less time to fiddle with PC gaming to get games to work.

Oh yes unofficial patches but then you it goes down to PC gaming issues. Mods are always great but now mods are finally truly coming to some console games. I love mods, some of my favorite gaming times have come from modded games or modded servers, but nowadays I just want to sit down, relax, and play.

I still don't understand the whole argument about relaxing while playing a game is impossible on a PC. Are you guys sitting on a rock while playing PC games? A half-decent office chair can cost upwards of $100 (about the same as a decent couch), but even then you can use a lousy one and sit on a pillow. Hell, my buddy used a Broyhill recliner while at his PC for years and when he would switch to a controller for RPGs and action games, he would tilt the monitor a little lower, throw the recliner back, and game in pure comfort.

So, I don't buy that argument about console gaming being more comfy than PC gaming. You don't have to be uncomfortable to play on a PC and these days, most PC games are 100% compatible with controllers, so you don't have to miss out on the cutting edge graphics, mods, using a keyboard and mouse, or anything else for that matter.

I play my pc in front of my 4k HDR tv. Comfort is the same as watching a movie or playing ps4

Same here, although I'm cheap and still use a 1080p TV.

Although with the right pc hardware I think gsync and 144hz would be a better gaming experience in terms of motion and smoothness than 60hz on my tv. To be honest though I'm past that. No more buying gaming mice and keyboards etc. just my Xbox one elite controller.

It's not as easy to use a keyboard and mouse while reclining compared to a controller. Using a controller while playing multi-player games on PC and you'll get murdered.
