Trying to install Windows 7.....

So here is the deal, I have an AsRock A75M-ITX Motherboard with an AMD A8-3820 processor. I have enabled AHCI mode (will be using an SSD in the near future).

It's currently splayed out on my desk as it's in it's testing phase. Anyway, I have used Windows 7 USB DVD Download tool so I can install Win 7 32Bit using my USB key. I have always used this method on several computers and it's worked without a problem. (Reinstalled Win 7 onto a Vista laptop a few hours before actually!)

However on this install, I get an error message. I have formatted the USB key etc. My external DVD drive isn't detected so I can't use a disc to install windows.

I have tried setting the SATA mode to "IDE" and it's still the same result.

Windows wants me to install a driver and I assume it's the SATA/AHCI/RAID driver.

So I pop those drivers onto another USB key, I go to browse the USB key but the hard drive I want to install on is actually detected!?

So I select the correct driver anyway, according to windows, it must be the correct driver because all incompatible drivers are hidden, so for example, if it wanted bluetooth drivers, it wouldn't show the SATA Controller driver!?

So I click next and after 20 seconds:

I have tried disconnecting the hard drive completely, then quickly plugging it in just after I press "Next" because I assume windows thinks it should find a new hard drive after installing SATA drivers.

Any help on how to smack it upside it's head and force it to install windows anyway would b e well appreciated!!

Thanks!

What happens if you ask it to show all drivers (untick the checkbox to limit driver selection) and pick the Microsoft driver?

It's weird that your hard drive shows up after you insert the USB key without installing anything. If that is really the case, can you cancel out of the driver installation once your hd shows up and then proceed w windows install?

Sounds like a flakey piece of hardware on the mobo. Do all Sata ports on the mobo have this behavior when you connect your install target ?

Thanks for the reply, if I ask it to show all the drivers, it does not show the Microsoft driver, only the drivers on the USB stick.

The hard drive always shows up which is the most annoying thing ever! I can't cancel out of the driver installation because the "next" button is greyed out and I can't progress.

All sata ports behave in this way. The hard drive shows up just fine in the BIOS and I can even use the command prompt to browse the hard drive etc! It's just so strange! I might just slip in the drivers and make my own custom install ISO

Try this:

1. When you get the "Load Driver" screen press Cancel
2. Click the close button upper-right of screen to end the installation process (this should bring you back to the install now screen).
3. Unplug and Re-plugin your USB and then click Install Now.
4. Your should be smooth sailing from here.

I don't understand why......but that worked!!

Thank you ever so much!
So onto the next question...where's the Rep button!?
