Way back in high school, during lunch hour, my friends and I would always play the game Asshole. Unfortunately it's been almost 11 years since I last played it and almost all the mechanics of the game have escaped me. Thus, I am making an appeal to the much vaunted base of knowledge that is ATOT to see if anyone can assist me with this.
And before anyone asks, yes, I have tried google. What we played is very different from what commonly comes up under that name -- it's also known as President -- with more complex card rules, no drinking, and no points/pots, and play is continuous.
Here's what I remember of the game:
Cards are dealt. Pretty sure entire deck goes out, though not certain. The winner (president) of the previous round (if there was one) gets the two highest cards from the person who lost (asshole), and in turn gives their worst cards or cards of choice. Second place (vice-president) and second loser (vice asshole) in turn would exchange single cards.
Play progresses based on suit; if the top card is a 6 of diamonds, you can play any other diamond on top of it. Dealer/president goes first, play progresses to the left. Suits are changed by putting on a card of the same number but a different suit (ie, top of the pile is a 9 of heats, you can put a 9 of clubs and the suit is now clubs). Playing pairs, triples, and quads is acceptable. Passing I believe is necessary if you can't play anything.
Play continues until all players have exhausted their cards, the first person getting out being the president, second vice president, second last vice-asshole, last asshole.
There were cards that had special effects. Here's what comes to mind.
2 - Can't recall effect. Something to do with pairs I think
3 - Can't recall effect. Something to do with triples I think
4 - Skip next player
7 - Wild card, change suit to whatever you desire, can be played on top of anything.
Jacks - One eyed jacks had some kind of effect, not sure if other jacks did
Other face cards - Can't recall effect, if any
Jokers - Can't recall if used
That's all that I can recall about the game. Please, if anyone is familiar with this game or variation, please enlighten me. I remember enjoying the game a great deal and want to play it again, I just need to know how to do it!
Probably the most frustrating thing about this whole situation is that I played this game at lunch for several years through high school and now I can't recall much about it at all.
