trying to run worms armageddon... nothing happens

when i try to open it, it doesn't load. i've downloaded the xp patch, directx 9.0, tried reinstalling it... still nothing. it's listed as one of my processes, happily taking up 2 mb of ram, but not doing anything else. any clues? it's a new 933 mhz crusoe with 384 mb ram and 40 gb hdd (30 gb free), running xp pro.

btw, this has happened occasionally to me with other programs, on other computers. what can cause it?

Install win 98, it doesn't run properly on NT/2K/XP.

I actually have a win98 partition set up just for that game, but never play it.

I dont know if WA would work with XP, but not sure about that. I know that when it first came out, there was a batch of bad CDs that they shipped, so maybe on of those ended up in your hands. I thought that was the case with mine, because it always went back to the desktop after I started it, but I fixed the problem by downloading patches or something, but this was when I was running Win98SE.

If you bought it from a retail store, Id say save yourself the trouble and go exchange it for Worms World Party <-----almost exact same game, except it has less problems

EDIT: actually, the exchange may not work at most places, since they usually only allow exchange for the same title only. ah well

I got it to work with the 3.x patch (I think), and a third-party application that I think was somewhere on geocities.

worms blast isn't working either. this sucks, i don't want to install a whole other os just for one game. i'll keep a look out for a patch

I think Worms blast is a different style type of game. Its more of a puzzle game I think

oh... damn. i thought all of the worms games were the same, more or less. i didn't buy these though, these are demos from the website

Install the beta update unless that's what you mean by the XP patch. You might want to try Silkworm if that doesn't work.

I think Silkworm is the program I was referring to (I couldn't remember the name)
