Of course a determined foe can find a way around most procedures or safeguards. That doesn't mean you should throw your hands in the air and declare the situation hopeless. If reasonable safeguards (locking the door to the flight deck, requiring at least two people in the cockpit at all times, etc) deter or thwart 99% of these lunatics, they should be implemented IMO.
I am not advocating that we get rid of those rules, as they don't reduce our dignity. The TSA gropefest however...

Security in a nuclear power plant trumps what you will find at any airport in the U.S. There's nothing wrong with privatizing airport security if you do it like the Nuclear Regulatory Commission mandates its power plants. Hell, most nuclear power plants security force will make local swat teams look bad.

TSA needs to be dismantled for good.

Based on the nonsensical rant you posted and the fact that you believe Democrats care about you any more than Republicans, I'm going to say you are an unhinged liberal, even if you don't admit it.

Airline security used to be private until government decided they needed to get involved. Now we spend a lot more money and are no more secure.

So what's wrong with reverting to private security? Do you think the airline want their $100M airplanes blowing up on a regular basis? No. Sometimes greed IS good. Which Democrats are championing going back to our cheaper just-as-good security?

Obviously the airlines don't want their $100M airplanes blowing up but a previous poster was on point.

This isn't about safety it's about removing the airliners liability if something goes wrong. That's it, nothing more and nothing less. That's why, despite most of their customer base despising it, you don't hear the airlines speaking out against the TSA. The costs of running their own security is a non-issue as in the scheme of things it wouldn't even be a rounding error in their operation costs.

Security theater, as many of us have said from day one. I always thought it would be trivial getting a bladed weapon on a plane (build its components into your carry on so that even on an x-ray they look like carry on luggage framing), but I'm surprised the security is such crap even this percentage of explosives can get through.

The cockpit doors are locked now and the lack of those locks is what allowed the 9/11 hijackers to gain control of the planes and the crashes to happen. Also, two people are required in the cockpit at all times. These TSA idiots seem to be able to find and confiscate nail clippers and corkscrews but can't seem to find bombs and guns. Does anyone seriously believe that after 9/11, passengers would sit idly by while a couple of maniacs with scissors, nail clippers, screwdrivers, or corkscrews take over the passenger cabin? A poster at another forum told a story about the time he had a 6-way screw driver in his computer bag. The TSA took it away, of course. But then he heard someone run up behind him yelling 'Sir! Sir! Look... If you break down your screw driver into the basic parts then none of them are more than 4" long. As long as you leave it in parts you can take it on with your carry-on.' I mean SERIOUSLY?

What they need to focus on is finding bombs and firearms and screw everything else, but evidently even that's too hard for them.
Well said.

Excellent point, and agreed.

People like the TSA. The TSA makes them feel warm and fuzzy. All of those fancy machines must be protecting them! And the TSA has badges! The badges mean they are well trained officers!

The TSA is a joke. They are toothpaste thieves and that's it.

Well they are a joke because they have zero power. First mistake was not making them peace officers. That would immediately change the tone and seriousness of their job. If you want to see how to properly protect your airports, look at Israel...

I 100% agree. There were a lot of us hoping the TSA would be modeled after Israel. Instead we got whatever pile of junk we have now.

I should note that I have only had positive experiences with the TSA. They are always friendly, professional and helpful. Their employees seem well trained and do a great job.

The yahoos that run it now or the fucks that the government would hire? No thanks. I don't disagree with your Israel point but it's a quite smaller scale. I don't think we can do/afford that.

Interesting argument-it is the other guys fault because the GOP didn't have a filibuster proof majority to ram through what they purportedly meant to do, as opposed to what they actually did do. "Never my fault" is certainly the modern GOP's true touchstone.

We already had privatized airport security before 9/11, and that was proven inadequate.

We solved that security inadequacy with the ingenious use of a new technological marvel called "deadbolt locks". I don't see how grabbing a toddlers junk prevents any harm to an airplane and obviously they are failing in a spectacular way.

The TSA completely fucks over our 4th amendment rights. They steal from us. They sexually molest children and adults alike. They subject us to virtual strip searches. They make us show up to the airport at least an hour earlier than we used to have to. They make us take our damn shoes off. They even assault cancer patients.

One thing that they do not do is make us any safer as the very same government that forces them upon us has proven.

ok that looks bad.

67 out of 70 tests...

but hey since 9/11 how many airplanes have bumped in to a building?

none.

a deterrent is the best deterrent.

$30 deadbolt.....

Ok it's the government so a $300 deadbolt. Problem solved. What else you got?

We don't have peace officers in the United States anymore.

I always stare into their eyes as they are feeling my balls up, you? If they are really good at their "job" and I have a long layover I'll ask them how long their shift lasts with a wink and a smile.
