yes but Pre-Check is a separate program from Global Entry. I've read that Global Entry doesnt get the rest of your family in while Pre-Check will. we'll see come Monday.

Wherever you read that was wrong. Pre Check does not guarantee your family will get TSA-PRE (unless your family is all 12 years or younger). However it is likely that everyone on the same PNR will get "TSA-PRE" if one person has it, regardless of whether they got it via Global Entry, Sentri or TSA-Precheck. I got my Precheck through Global Entry and my mother got TSA-PRE on her BP when we flew to Sweden. If you don't see it and the airline participates double check that its been added to your flight reservation (which is different than being added to your frequent flier profile). If its not there you can enter it in and re-print your boarding pass so it says TSA-PRE on it. That said participating in the Pre-check program does not guarantee you will get it listed on your boarding pass. Occasionally the TSA-Precheck system decides you need to go through the regular line and some airlines don't participate in the program.

Here is one of many threads on flyertalk about this and, while 75-80% are successful when people are on the same reservation it doesn't work every time

Isn't it $85 for 5 years?

Nexus is only $50 for 5 years which includes Global Entry and TSA PreCheck benefits. Of course there's a catch, they only have enrollment centers near the Canadian border:
http://www.fasttrackpassportcontrol.com/nexus-enrollment-centers

Warning if you're a non-US citizen permanent resident, it may take WEEKS before being approved. Then you have to schedule an appointment.

olds gave me a day pass from the basement, RedSquirrel let me spend a night at his place but demanded I buy him breakfast at Tim Hortons.

I was under the impression that Global Entry includes Pre-Check + other stuff.

The bottom bullet point.

You are correct, Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck.

Let me describe this topic a little better for everyone:

Pre year-2000 - Easy entry through security, no need to take off extra clothes like shoes, or pull out laptops. No additional fees.

After Global Entry: OMG This is awesome! I don't have to take off any extra clothes like shoes, or pull out my laptop. All I had to do was pay a ridiculous reoccurring fee!

Ahhh the ignorance of people is beautiful.

If you fly frequently and are a borderline Howie Mandel germaphobe (like I am), it's $10 per year well spent.

If you are going to rail against ignorance you should at least get your programs straight first. Global Entry is a fast pass for CBP airport checkpoints. TSA-Precheck is what deals with airport security screening. While Global Entry happens to allow you into the TSA Precheck program there were lines at the CBP checkpoints before 2001. So yes Global Entry is awesome for some people and would have been awesome before 2001 without the TSA Precheck program.

I think its also a mistake to assume ignorance. I think its pretty obvious from my posts I have no love for the TSA but what is me wasting my time in security lines going to prove? No one in the TSA is going to say "Hey that guy is standing in the regular line. This program should change!" The TSA is government funded so they won't feel the loss of revenue from me (Or Amex in this case since they paid for it for me). Standing on principle has little merit these days as its been 16 years of poor implementation, bad planning and wasteful spending yet they're still here. Not enough Americans care or too many are still scared. So yes I consider it a 'good deal' to have spent $0 to bypass long lines full of people who complain "Why do I have to take off my shoes? When did this shit start?!", stuff water bottles in their carry on and can't be bothered to empty their pockets.

I'd bet the majority of people in this thread with Global Entry paid exactly $0 for it and is using it from credit card benefits. I know that is how I got mine, it cost me nothing.

But keep on with your bad self. Your ignorance is beautiful!

Pre-Check comes with Global Entry. Use your Known Traveler's Number when booking and whoever else is on your reservation will usually get Pre-Check too, family or not.

Hypothetically someone I know forgot to update this information and still used Global Entry successfully 3 times before remembering to do this and it never caused an issue. Hypothetically and not that I would recommend trying but it was surprising - in a hypothetical kind of way

Good to know, in a purely hypothetical situation

I use it a lot at ATL. It's better overall... But people don't put their tubs back into the receptacle when they get through, so a lot of tubs get backed up until someone like me gets a bunch and pts them where they belong.
Second, some people will keep shoving tubs onto the belt before yours and you are stick waiting for it. That's why I try to get to a spot closer to the X-ray machine.

Yeah - not a huge fan. Some of the problems are just familiarity. The back ~3 slots are regularly filled but many people don't move forward to take the first 1-2 slots when they are open.

More often then not I am stuck waiting for things to go through the scanner at TSA-Pre and this doesn't really do anything to help that. There might be some improvement but thats going to be offset for quite a while by the people who don't know how to use it and its slow spread throughout the country. Hell I was standing in the regular line (international airline that doesn't participate in TSA-Pre) and a guy in front of me got upset he had to remove his shoes. "Since when?!" Uh...since like 15 years ago.

That YouTube video suggests it is specific to United, is that correct? If so I will go the normal route and not be dragged off the plane.
