I have an old AMD 1800+ that had a dirty OEM heatsink. The thing looked soo patehtic I un-installed it and went out to Fry's to get a socket A TT silent boost. Using the included thermal grease I put a teeny tiny blob of thermal grease. It was about 1/8th the size of a grain of rice. Then I got some saran wrap and wrapped that tight against my index finger. I dabbed the blob and spread the grease making sure to cover the entire core. Then I slowly removed enough until I could barely see the color of the core. I put the silent boost on and booted up. When I entered XP, temps were about 41C idle. With SoB running, I'm not passing 46C.
TT's Silent Boost kicks ASS!!
