HardwareCooling has the Tualatin Adapter for $7.99.

I paid ten bucks for this a month ago and it's working great on my computer system. I think this
is a hot deal IMHO.

I'm hesitant to use one of these. I see that it has the lugs that allow you to clamp the HSF (securing the CPU to the adapter), but what holds the adapter to the motherboard?

SMP is Symmetric Multiprocessing. IE dual-CPU.

The celerons officially don't support multiprocessing, but some adaptors let you do it anyway.

Ok, I have a Soyo 6Be+ slot 1 Mb, with a slot 1 to socket 370 adapter running a celeron 366@567. And opionion on whether I could put the Tualatin adapter in the slot 1 adapter and have it work? Like to know before I drop bucks for the Tualatin chip. Newegg has a Tualatin 1.4 for $60, dont want $75 worth of stuff that wont work.

There are no ways to get Tualatin Celerons to run in SMP. I don't even believe that Coppermine Celerons were ever able to be run in SMP, just the original Celerons.

I was concerned about the same issue. It doesn't seem like just the pins from the Tualatin adapter locked into the slocket would be strong enough to support the adapter, CPU and HSF vertically over time. Instead, I opted to replace the Slocket with a Slot-T adapter from Stratton Computer. It was just under $27 shipped. Paired it up with the Celeron 1.0A I got from Fry's for $19.90 and they work great together. Funny that the adapter cost more than the processor.

drx9175l, thanks for the link. I might give that a go, no Fry's near, so may go with this
Chip

Edit:The Slot-T doesnt have onboard VRM,
here
I am afraid my Soyo doesnt let me adjust it, and may not have voltage regulators that will handle the extra current draw. Powerleap solves the VRM issue, but it costs more, if you can buy just the adapter from them anymore.

I agree that the 1.3 is a better deal at $47.50 vs. the 1.4 at $59. That's a great article on the Slot-T adapter. I hadn't read it before, but I did know to check the voltage stepping of my motherboard. The Abit BE6-II I have goes down to 1.3V and immediately set the voltage to 1.5 when the new processor was inserted. The Powerleap adapter is available separately for $50, do a search on Pricewatch. But at that price it may be wiser to buy a new CPU/motherboard combo.

I have just spent one of the most frustrating afternoons ever trying to get this adapter to work in either a Soyo SY-7VMA-B or a Soyo SY-7VCA-E motherboard. The problem is that the ZIF socket on the motherboards can't hold the converter/CPU/cooler/fan assembly. I have carefully assembled the unit several times, but the assembly pops out under just the weight of the assemby. The reason for this post is to perhaps save someone from ruining an adapter or a CPU. When the assembled unit pops out of the ZIF you can't just put it back in the socket since the lever on the motherboard socket is down and must be raised before the converter can be reinserted in the ZIF. You can't raise or lower the locking arm with the cooler in place so your problem is to somehow remoce the cooler without damaging the 370 delicate exposed pins. I have a superbly well equipped shop so the trick I found is to use a 3/4" Starrett machinist's clamp which will fit over the spring detent on the cooler and under the converter. Using this technique you can compress the detent by closing the clamp with the two screws and then raise the end of the detent to clear the lug on the converter and back off the clamp to release the cooler holddowns. Doing it this way there is no danger of either bending a pin or of breaking the detent lug on the converter. I have done this several times and am getting very proficient at removing the fan/cooler from the CPU, but I have not been successful in getting the adapter to stay on either of the motherboards.
