My money says Dominion settlement and associated lawsuits was at least 50% of this. The announcement reads like it was a “negotiated departure” between Tucker and Fox management.

Unfortunately, this won’t be the end for him. He’s built too much of an audience that would follow him anywhere, and grifters gotta keep grifting. Someone mentioned Rush—he’d be the natural choice to revive the EIB network brand and take over. He couldn’t possibly settle differences with Trump and join whatever fledgling mediafail of the week Don Junior is working on. In the meantime, there’ll be Substack and a podcast at least.

I get the feeling that Tucker may hold out on launching his own full fledged media brand until after 2024 shakes out. He could make mega bucks courting think tanks and candidates and maybe even nab himself a VP gig. I feel like him taking a personal interest in the upcoming election could also be a driving reason behind his departure.

Reading on WaPo that he is being ousted not because of the lawsuit per se as he wasn't sued or implicated, but because of comments he made about management which came out in texts and e-mails during discovery.

It's telling in Fox's press release about Carlson's exit is that he is not getting a final show. No chance to say goodbye on his own terms. Looks like a firing. Now to see what mouth breather they will replace him with.

Do you not understand how any of this works?? Hannity is dancing a jig right now! He’ll likely get that time slot back after Fox is done with guest hosts and, either way, will see a significant boost to his ratings. All of these hosts (most networks, but especially at Fox) are out for themselves and each commands a warring faction of producers and off-screen talent trying to outdo one another.

Edit: Also, it is extremely unlikely that Maddow leaves her cushy gig with NBC right now—she wields a lot of power behind the scenes and sets her own schedule. I don’t think she wants anything to do with a Murdoch-affiliated Fox…and her champion Roger Ailes is long gone.
