Hi,

I just built a new system and everything is working great but my temps seem a little high to me. After all this is a 45nm CPU and even my old 90nm didnt idle at this temp. I am using Realtemp to monitor the temperature.

I am currently seeing about 40C-45C idle and about 55C after running prime for about 20 minutes. When first put everything together I was seeing about about 55C idle so I took it apart, removed thermal paste, & remounted the tower.

Specs are as follows:
E8200
Tuniq Tower 120
Asus P5Q-E
8800GT
4GB DDR2 1066
NZXT Hush case
OCZ 420w Powerstream
2 hdds & dvd-rw

I used some old Arctic Silver 5 I had (the tube it comes in has a ton) that is about 3 years old of that makes any difference. The tower is not even warm to the touch. I tightened the screws down pretty far but I can still a little bit of the thread. Should I tighten them more?

The case does have sound dampening foam which I am sure keeps the heat in as well but the temps are the same with the panels off. The airflow is fairly good I think, I have moved most of the cables to the side where I could.

Do these temps seem about right for this setup or should they be lower?

Thanks!

That does seem a little high to me.
Did you lap your heatsink & cpu?
Here's a link to one of my older threads wondering if my temps were ok.
After installing a Xigmatek HD-S1283, I may go back to my Tuniq. My temps are a little higher than that post & it's only at stock settings!

Thanks for the reply! I only put a little dot of the AS in the center of the CPU before putting the tower on. I thought I read once that there was such a thing as too much thermal coupond but I could be wrong. Do you think it would help to put some more on? I did notice that the tower doesnt have a perfectly smooth bottom on it.

Right now I have the tower blowing up but I think it might be better to have it so it just blows out the back of the case.

Reading your thread it looks like switching out the fan helped you. I was thinking of trying out another fan anyway since the stock one is kind of loud. I am not currently overclocking this at all. I figure temps already being kind of high I dont want to make it worse haha.

Don't put too much TIM on it.
If your AS5 is that old, i'd get some more...not necessarily AS5, though.
Check around the forums for debates on TIM & when you get some, apply according to manufacturer's recommendations.

Do you need to lap the Tuniq Tower 120? I've read all over about lapping the TRUE, because it ships with a concavity or convexity, forgot which. But do you need to lap the TT? Are they shipped flat?
