From what I can tell it performs on par with the Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Its before rebate price is about the same as that unit, so if you need a decent cooler this is probably a good way to go (or if you just love bling). If you get the rebate its a damn good deal.

Tuniq comes with a fan controller, but I dont know how the sound compares to the 212+.

it's a decent but dated cooler; just don't plan on ever getting your rebate from Tuniq. I made the mistake of buying several Tuniq/Sunbeam coolers with rebates last year and got paid for NONE of them. Tuniq/Sunbeam never bothered to answer my repeated email inquiries; of course there was no phone number listed on the rebate form to call. Read through owner's reviews on Tuniq/Sunbeam products at NE and you'd see that many have gotten duped.

It's $29 with shipping, and it isn't compatible with newer sockets unless you buy an adapter.

It's funny - there was a time that the Tuniq Tower was considered the be-all-and-end-all of CPU coolers, and was priced to match (around $50, but I think it tended to be sold above retail). It was so exclusive that you often had to search out a vendor who could deliver it, and Newegg never carried it. It weighs nearly 1kg.

Interestingly, even when it came out in 2005, however, it wasn't necessarily the most effective cooler. Here's a review from Tom's shortly after its introduction: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/10-mammoth-cpu-coolers,1053.html

Good to know that your average $25 cooler can now match or beat it in performance. It's easily killed by a CoolerMaster Hyper 212+, for instance: http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2480&page=5. You'll find its cousin the Extreme at the top of this list, but the Tuniq Tower is somewhere in the middle.

LOL, I just read the reviews, I don't write them!

But for the record, here's AnandTech getting emotional about the Tuniq Tower 120 back in 2007:

"We have seen comments that claim the Tuniq is the best air cooler you can buy. Others have said the cooling is as effective as many water cooling solutions. We have more testing to do before we can support either of these claims. However, we can say with certainly that the Tuniq Tower 120 is one of the best cooling solutions we have ever tested. When you consider the cost is about $50 the Tuniq also has to be considered an incredible value. We can't think of many other products that cost $50 that will do as much for system performance as the Tuniq Tower 120."

Article: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2152

Interestingly, just two months later, Anandtech found that the Tuniq Tower 120 was thoroughly beaten by the Thermalright Ultra 120: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2185/9

"When the Tuniq Tower 120 was reviewed to begin this round of cooler tests we knew from benchmarking that it was an outstanding cooler. We really did not know at that time how good it would prove to be, as it has taken many cooler reviews to find a unit that matches or surpasses the performance of the Tuniq. The Thermalright Ultra 120 is that cooler."

Truth is, Anandtech got to reviewing the modern air coolers a little late, and so they had some catching up to do. Between 2001 and 2007, they had only reviewed three air coolers (and this was in August 2006).

i have one of these still cooling a q8300 as its final resting place... it's huge, heavy, and was always finicky for me to get seated good... it's performance got quickly overshadowed by a lot of other smaller, lighter coolers at the same sound level...

but it was tops for a case with a clear side panel and some tracers if you wanted a mean looking box...

Hey, middle of the pack and very near the 212+ for 14$ aint bad at all...didnt realize the rebates were so iffy though. Even at the pre rebate price, it still looks like a toss up...best sale price on the 212+ Ive seen was around 25$.

Doesnt look like there are adaptors for any of the i series though. I didnt know that at first, though I saw a few people modify it to fit.

Not trying to diss the deal. Just noting how technology moves along at a pretty good clip, even while we're not looking. I saw that deal in the Newegg e-mail blast too, and thought, heck, I haven't heard about the Tuniq Tower lately, and I sure hadn't seen it on sale at Newegg before. It's not a bad deal at $14+shipping, but without the rebate, it looks more iffy.

212+ is still available for ~$30, e.g. here: http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0315397

At $30, however, the newer Gaia is superior: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233082

I have a Tuniq Tower 120 on my Q6600 @ 3.6. Keeps temps around 85C under OCCT linpack.

One thing that I wasn't happy about, it uses spring-tensioned screws, so when you screw it down to the base, you don't actually screw it down on the heatsink. It's actually held down by the springs. And thus, you cannot get a really firm screwdown on it, it will always have some play. If you overtighten, it gets worse, as it puts the top plate at an angle, instead of level.

I paid $60 + tax at Microcenter for mine.

Looks like the exact same cooler, only with nickel plating and a faster fan.

30-day warranty? LOLWTF?!

EDIT: The Gaia looks like it has a better mounting system as well.

How does the Gaia compare to the Balder? ($24 AR)

just got a balder for a 2500k build i am doing, but ended up putting it on my old x2 box and using the ocz vendetta it had... the balder is very heavy for what it is... it`s only middling performance wise, no better than the vendetta... but if you like the chromey look...
